Left my house to drop my daughter off at work this morning, and about a mile down the road the truck gave me a low tire warning, 26psi. Prior to this warning I had the -- displayed for tire pressure. Why does Rivian have this delay? I also never got any message in the app about this warning, why not? If a tire is low it should be reported to me immediately, including a message in the app.

The tire had a screw in the middle of the tread. Two positive things: I used the compressor for the first time to air it up, and Discount Tire fixed it for free. Kudos to them, they even have the Rivian jack pucks and did not have to use mine.

Bad news though, the guy at Discount indicated my tires will need to be replaced soon, and I only have 13k miles on them. And no, I do not use conserve mode, except on long trips.

Yeah, I noticed it takes a number of minutes of driving to register. My other cars are generally within a minute or so of starting down the road.

Munro: Use cheaper TPMS module to save money.

Newer TPMS sensors are motion-activated and will go into sleep mode when the wheels stop moving to preserve sensor battery life. The sensors take a few minutes to wake-up. Rivian didn't cheap-out on the sensors, that's just how they operate nowadays.

I'm wondering if the vehicle forgets which ID to listen to occasionally and only picks them up after driving a while. When I let air out for my off-roading stuff, it knew about three of the four tires being low but stopped reporting anything about tire pressure that whole day until I aired back up.

It isn't just conserve mode that kills tires. It's also driving in heights where the suspension alignment is not optimal. And have you ever rotated your tires?

I had gone for a drive this weekend through Squamish and wasn't intending to do any off-roading, but was t an area to turn around on pavement, so went literally 2 seconds down a logging road to turn around. Immediately got a tpms warning light and was watching my pressure drop 1psi every 10ish seconds.

I decided not to gum up my tire with the fix a flat in favor of popping by a Canadian tire 20kms away and plugging it.

Conclusion is the tpms will stop sending data to the truck after a few minutes, so you can still watch them inflate in real time etc after stopping briefly. That same shut off delay is present when the truck starts moving again for restart, usually around 1-2 minutes after driving starts.

Either weight, tires, or shite luck, I've now had 3 punctures on the AT Scorpions in 9,500 km's. Might swap to Flaken next round.

PS
Not the worst spot to have to stop to inflate a tire.

Edit* had to stop 4 times to re inflate on the way to Canadian Tire. The built in air compressor was probably one of the best additions to the Rivian Swiss army knife.

I have just under 30k on my 20”. They are fine. Probably not for winter. They suck anyway on slippery snow. Have since day one. Not a good OEM tire. Also loud AF

Commenting to bump this. We want those little batteries to last as long as possible. I change mine only every time I buy tires….so for the Riv I guess it will be every 20-30k?! ?

I guess I don't see the problem. All my newer cars work this way. And my older cars don't have TPMS sensors at all, but I've never had a problem noticing a screw in my tire with those either ...

Give me the old ones, they are much safer. Glad we do not have Firestone tires.
TPMS is not a substitute for a tire pressure gauge.
