EVs are heavier, and that plays a large role.

However, a lot of EV-rated tires can account for some of the additional load. Not all.

Then you have powerful EVs making 500+hp that are RWD or AWD. Those are going to wear tires faster. Those that have more power generally are driven harder as well.

Bottom line, they will wear faster on average than a traditional ICE vehicle.

On the other side, if anyone is familiar with RWD sports cars, those rear tires go even faster. 3-5K and they're gone, especially if you have summer tires and drive it hard. Track day? Maybe 1 day and its gone.

I am now approaching 20k on my DM machine with no visible wear on them; they still look new. I am sure there is less tread, but this truck is not tearing through them the way my QM did, so I think the drivetrain can make a difference in wear. Which makes sense, but is far from scientific....

I hot 36,000 on my R1T before I traded for R1S. Had 21s on the T and replaced them twice. Now on the all terrains on my S and I am at 2,000 miles so far. Looks like ATs are going to hold more miles than 21s

I got 30000 out of my 21 OEMs. i could feel the slipping, espically if in conserve mode, so knew it was time. Down to 3/32 to 4/32 and could tell they were done. I had my tires rotated between every 5000 to 7000 miles either by Rivian or Discount tire. Got the OEM Pireillis around $500 a tire with pricematch, warranty, taxes, and install from Discount Tire. I watched for a few months and waited till I found a great price on the tires. If you have the OEM 21s, just watch them by taking them for regular rotations and once they reach 6/32 start shopping knowing they will be worn out by the next 5000 to 7500 rotation. Discount tire is great for the replacements and the rotations.

I have 40% tread left on my AT's at 19,400 miles. Should see close to 30K. Rotate every 7,500.

27k on the all terrains and I’ve never rotated them. They probably still have 5-10k left for rubber, but because they’re too loud for me I’m getting rid of them soon.

Read an article about people needing to change tires fairly frequently on EVs.

What have all of you observed? I have the 21” road tires.

Here’s the article:

https://gizmodo.com/florida-ev-buyers-shocked-to-learn-their-cars-eat-tires-1851197019#:~:text=Tire mileage can vary widely,ve never bought the car.
Too many factors involved. Especially for the R1, which has variable height suspending and variable drive modes. The biggest factor is driving habits and how close each owner pays attention to tire condition and rotation schedules. But, in general, BEVs are heavier than their closest ICE counterparts because batteries. Thus, higher rate of tire consumption.

I buy a new set every 2 weeks.
