Sorry to hear about your issues, my truck was delivered in August and it has been an absolute technological marvel, solid, well built and a blast to drive and own. I would ask for an exchange, you won't regret owning a Rivian when you get rid of the lemon.

It is truly disheartening to see Rivian quality slipping so much...

90% of people?...based on..?.... your own fortunate experience?

Service wait times paint a very different number.
My truck was at service for nearly 5 weeks while they tackled all the issues with it. A lot of the time was waiting for parts, but some of the problems ended up being a lot more work than anticipated because it was a bigger issue than they guessed when I put the tickets in. Haven't had any new issues since that visit ended in November though.

Sorry you are having an issue. I've had my truck 3 weeks and have not had any issues. Can't find a single production fail on the vehicle and I am very picky. Panel gaps and door adjustment may be all you need and you will have a great truck. You might reconsider selling it and pocket the profits. The demand is such that I bet you could find a willing buyer who will go through the process of getting the adjustments needed instead of waiting a very long time to get a truck.

I got my R1T this Saturday 01/07, upon inspection I noticed some panel gaps that looked pretty bad but I thought I could live with that. I Drove from Richmond SC to Raleigh, NC where I live.

The next day in the morning I noticed the driver's door is not closing properly, with the door closed, from inside I can put all my fingers between the door and body of the truck, and the rubber gaskets barely make contact. From the outside, I can see the rubber gaskets exposed and not sealing anything, how that go though their "inspection" I don't know.

I opened a ticket and the only time offered is 70 days away and I'll need to miss a day of work during over 5 hours back and forth, I'm not willing to wait 70 days to get this issue fixed and I can't sell a truck that I know has serious issues.

I know the return window is 7 days or 1000 miles which gives me until next Saturday to figure out what to do. Does anyone have any experience with returning a vehicle? I really want to keep it but the headache of driving 5 hours for any issues and waiting for God knows how many months now they are delivering more trucks is making me think that it's just not worth the trouble, maybe in another 2 or 3 years.

I'll take some pictures and post here.
No Clue! I would probably return it if you can get another. Not a good omen for me. I've been waiting 4 years for an R1S.

Just updated with a few pictures, there are a lot of other panel gaps issues and other little things, but the doors in general are very poorly aligned and the worst part is that hinges and bolts have very clear signs of being messed with and scratches on the hinge paint all over.

Someone definitely tried to make it better (maybe made it worse) but could not figure it out. I don't have a lot of confidence they have the knowledge and skill for that sadly. I'd rather take to a good body shop that does that every day, bet they'd do a better job, and I might.

I spoke with the service center and my guide and they got a mobile appointment in another 2 days, so I'll update this thread after service. Looks like you need to keep contacting guides and service center/customer service to get better options. I hope it gets better with time.

I decided to roll the dice and see how things work out, trying to document all conversations and issues in case I need to get this escalated in any other way.

I'm adjusting my expectations to a lot lower than I would normally for a luxury vehicle, used to having Audis and their service was always incredible for me.

Yikes - that driver door is really out of adjustment, good news is it should be fixable as you said. Hope you get all your issues sorted out without further hassle, you’ll love the truck once right 😉

I would return it/not take delivery in a heartbeat with all those problems.

Question #1: What does Rivian do with returned vehicles?
Question #2: How would Rivian, as a manufacturer of vehicles with VINs assigned, "exchange vehicles" with someone who returns their truck? It must really screw up their VIN assignments unless you go to the end of the line when you return the vehicle?

Not belittling your issue, but if the door was closing initially and now is not, it might just be a bolt not tight on the upper most hinge, or latch on the B pillar that has allowed the door to settle to what it is? Where I might be inclined to fix it myself in the interim, it's unacceptable to allow it to not only leave the factory as is, but also service center prior to delivery.

70 days is unacceptable especially if you can't close/latch the door to drive with confidence.

Tech came out to my home this week to work on the truck, he came earlier than scheduled and was able to work on my door to fix the issue. He was a nice guy, said a lot of good things about the company, and how he put 9k miles in 8 weeks in his R1T.

It's far from perfect, but I'll call it good enough for now, it is much better than before and I'll keep my appointment to get the panel alignment better, and take care of a few other issues as well. Overall my gut feeling is that Rivian is trying to make things better and fix the issues, I have also been communicating with my guide and he has been great.

My guess is with increases in price and how well these trucks drive they will keep a good value, in a year if things don't get better I'll end up selling.

OP and all others, I’m assuming you had pre-March pricing.

Had you returned it within the 7 days and opted to wait for a later model (one with their newly redesigned tonneau cover, etc) would they allow you to jump back in line at the pre-March price?? I assume you may have to go to the end of the line and wait a few more months but that may result in a more refined and less defective product if you have the luxury of waiting.

Would love to know if they’d honor your pre-March price in this instance.

I rejected delivery at the SC when the truck had a large dent in the driver's door. The delivery specialist was amazed something like that could have been missed during the inspection. The service manager indicated it was going to take paint work to fix that and another blemish on the rear fender so we passed

At that point, we had already finished signing all the paperwork at the SC but we did not accept delivery through the app. The papers we had signed were shredded.

Two days later, our guide started the process of rematching us with a new vehicle. I was flexible on colors so she found one at the factory that was already built and assigned it to us. I'm not sure why she went that route instead of granting shop access but from the choices she provided, it seemed like she was taking a broader view than what we would have seen through the shop.
