I’ve had a total loss on a previous lease with Mercury and yes, they appraise the vehicle and pay the bank the pay off amount and send me what’s left. I have gap insurance so if it’s lower they will at least take care of the pay off.

I’m not looking to buy the truck. I’m sure it will be a nightmare to try and repair. I’ll check out new R1T and see if I can make it happen and if not, I’ll post those accessories in Marketplace. Thank you everyone.

Glad OP is ok. Looks like Rivian did its job. When I see these types of accidents where the R1 is totalled, I often wonder how most of us feel/fare. My R1 is a little over a year old with about 12k on it. It looks and feels like it's new. To replace it, I'd have to buy a new one but on paper it's a year old depreciated car so, insurance is not paying for a new one. My R1 has been relatively trouble free so I'm not interested in a new one at this point. I suppose, once you survive an accident you start mentally climbing Maslow's hierarchy.

One thing I haven't seen is of there was a fault found by the cop?

If the other driver was at fault then their insurance is going to be covering this and tell them you want a replacement Rivian and it is their problem what it costs.

If it was your fault and insurance you will be stuck with whatever they pay out assuming you don't have new car replacement coverage.

If you are getting an insurance payout, the payment amount is supposed to be enough for you to replace with the same vehicle. If it's not you should push back on your insurance company and make sure you get a proper payout to replace the vehicle. What's the point of a payout if it's not enough to replace the vehicle with another one?

Got into an accident about a week ago when lights were out due to high winds. Got hit on the passenger side pretty hard by someone who didn’t stop. Just got news today they are considering it a total loss. Not sure I can get another Rivian due to me getting amazing deal in June right before Gen 2 announcement including Employee Referral Discount and Large battery discount. Thinking of parting it out. I have the flashlight, Camp Speaker, all weather floor mats, Gear Guard cable, frunk net, first aid kit, and air compressor kit. I even have a A2Z NACS adapter. Trying to get a feel for interest in all this but not sure how to sell on here. Should I post each item in the Marketplace?

Tie rod ? I could use an extra!

Pop off the tie rods and the passenger gear Tunnel plastic bin and send me I'd give you $100 plus shipping easy peasy

Rivian wants $250 to replace a broken gear Tunnel plastic storage bin (they pop right off .. so Pop those off and sell online for $100 easy! Since I am sure many are broken with the poor storage flap design)

The bigger pieces and parts have a lot of value since not easy to source. Heck your entire gear Tunnel doors look ok and should be useful.
Tailgate rails.. all those parts would be valuable... But storing all that, posting, parting it would be a hassel.. anything interior (screens, seats, subwoofer, speakers, lights) eventually be worth something but long time and very niche.

I didn’t have a usb drive plugged in at time of accident. Just my luck that a week before the drive that was in there failed and I got a message to format drive.

I’m waiting to hear about the value of my vehicle from my insurance company Mercury. The truck was leased and I have a payoff and hopefully they give me more than that since I will have to have some moneys to put down on a new vehicle.
You don't need a usb drive plugged in for it to record an accident. The on-board drive stores the camera videos.

Unfortunately, I know this first-hand since my R1S was rear-ended back in November and all 4 cameras recorded 2 minutes of video (30s prior to impact) and I had taken out my usb thumb drive the week earlier to copy my starred images off of it since it was full but hadn't plugged it back in.

That said, perhaps the reason why my accident was recorded was due to my hard braking since the traffic ahead had come to an abrupt stop; were you able to hit your brakes before impact?

See my rear camera view here of my accident here:

Agree with the others, if it was leased you will get nothing except out of it. You do not own the vehicle in a lease, the bank does. They will be getting the insurance payout.
My friend's gf totalled his 2 month old Audi. He said that he got money back because it was pretty new and insurance paid 100%. Any money over what is owed to the leasing company may go to the person who leased it. I did not get into details. This was a decade back.

An interesting read on how insurance works on a leased vehicle.

@bersurker Bummer that this happened, good to hear there were no serious injuries. It would be cool if you can follow up with how your incident was settled for others to get some understanding.

Aren’t those mobile parts legally owned by the insurance company if they total it?
First, come on buddy, OP just got their vehicle totaled. A couple hundred bucks worth of accessories are technically part of the vehicle, but why do you need to make a comment like this? And no, they do NOT belong to the insurance company. Totaling the vehicle out means the insurance company pays the value of the claim rather than the repair. What OP does is up to them.

Second, some of those are aftermarket and therefore, no, they do not belong to the insurance company, even under the most favorable interpretation for an insurance company

So sorry. When power went out due to the wind firestorm I completely avoided some busy intersections and changed my commute route. I was terrified a bozo would clobber my new fancy Rivian. There is a Rivian group in the San Gabriel Valley whose members might purchase your accessories. Again, very sorry this happened.

Buy a used one for around 50k like I did when mine was totaled when someone pulled out in front of me. Don’t get hung up on a gen 2 . The Launch edition is still the best thing out there compared to other trucks!

Thanks everyone. The accident was not recorded to my Incidents, and I've spoken to Rivian a couple times to see if there is anything they can do. They say they MIGHT be able to provide data but would need a subpoena so we will see if I want to go that route.

Rivian was deemed a total loss, still waiting on my actual cash value from insurance but I don't think a new Gen 2 is gonna be in the cards for me at this time. I have listed all my accessories in Member Marketplace if anyone is interested let me know there.

Sorry to hear that, OP. I’m currently in a very similar situation. I assume your car went dead after impact. Did you have a chance to do a total reset to erase your homelink and other personal info?

You can demand all you want but that doesn’t make any insurance company give you more money than your are entitled to based on your policy.
