    Brand new R1S is DEAD

My Tesla fanboi colleague said that when he had his replaced by mobile service though, it only took 5-10 mins which is magnitudes faster/easier than Rivian.

    Brand new R1S is DEAD

totally agree w/ you, but from what I understand from my Tesla fanbois, Tesla did have early issues w/ 12V batteries which is why they ended up switching to more reliable and long-lasting 14V lithium batteries.

    Brand new R1S is DEAD

All true, but in reality, it's HIGHLY dependent upon when/where your Rivian was bricked and your SC's backlog. FWIW, when I didn't hear from my SC the next business day morning (Monday) after my R1S was towed for the 12V bricking (Friday afternoon), I reached out to Rivian support and then...

    Brand new R1S is DEAD

Welcome to the club. Many similar 12V threads here but I guess not enough for an actual recall. ;-)

Car died after 6 days of delivery

When my R1S was bricked by its 12V failure as I was walking out of work on a Friday @5pm the tow truck company texted me that if it would be ok for them to come Sat 8-9am since their current operators on duty did NOT have the special tool needed to unlock the rear brakes. Thankfully, I was...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Well in that case, they do have an electronic tool which unlocks the rear wheels, so if they can get under your truck's rear, then at least it could be pushed/pulled but yeah the situation sounds risky given the ramp et. al.

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Yeah my tow truck operator said, some people don't like them to do that but considering we were standing in a torrential downpour I said, "do what you have to do." Besides, it was on an slightly inclined parking lot only accessible from the rear since there was a curb in front of my R1S, so...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Actually, my tow truck operator just hammered some plastic skates underneath my R1S rear tires and dragged it up onto the flatbed, so yeah, it can be towed otherwise.

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Obviously, I wouldn't want to run that test while driving but It sits at home plugged into my Rivian charger 10-12 hours/day. Feel free to allow the test then and even better, feel free to make so that the home charger can actually charge the 12V too! ;-)

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Well, since the battery pack charges the 12V AFTER it's started, could the software run such a test and then charge it back up, esp. when the original Rivians had two 12Vs? Find it hard to believe this is an engineering bridge too far.

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

I don't have it handy, but in another 12V thread someone mentioned that their SC person said they had gotten a bad batch of batteries from their supplier and his Rivian fell between those build dates, so yes, they know about it but are just taking a *reactive* posture and letting them fail...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

That's interesting since I suspected that the recent 2024.07.02 update had something to do w/ my failure! Thanks for sharing. That's the first I've heard of such a claim. Don't worry about the Rivian apologists though; the rest of us know it's not acceptable among many other issues posted...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Much more than a Tesla or ICE vehicle. Again, why the Rivian specific form factor instead of any other 12V form factor that has MANY other suppliers?

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

No need to *imagine*. Here's what it takes if you have one or two 12Vs depending upon your build, and NO it's not as easy to replace as a Tesla and FAR from as easy as any ICE vehicle ... Rivian R1S / R1T (Builds approx. 3/23 and Later) - Single 12V Battery Installation (Ohmmu) Rivian R1S / R1T...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Well, that was supposedly what the last OTA update was supposed to at least provide fair warning but if you can't buy a replacement 12V from your local parts place, then it's an expensive proposition. I thought I read on another forum it was an $800 service call IN ADDITION to the towing cost...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Well, I"m definitely not the only post in this forum w/ the same bricked experience esp. earlier posts for those w/ two 12Vs and when one failed it was not driveable. Yeah that brings up another good point. Why the unique form factor? What was the benefit of that? Whatever happened to...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Don't get me wrong. It was still under warranty, but the fact that it took from Friday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon to replace it, was FAR from the experience to replace an ICE battery. It is what it is. That said, it's not my 1st vehicle. Based upon owning a dozen or so ICE vehicles over...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Literally, I got the latest update that supposedly had the battery warning enhancement the Saturday before, and then when I went to walk out to leave work on that Friday, as I approached my R1S it went to wake up but only the driver side headlight and side of the light bar flashed on then off...

Guess it was my time - 12v is dead

Depends upon the service center and date/time. In my case it was a Friday afternoon as I was leaving work (an hour from my home and an hour plus from the SC) and the 3rd party tow service they called didn't have a driver w/ the special tool required to unlock the rear brakes which they didn't...
