A guy on YouTube compared the Donut test results with the Samsung 25R, which is a 10 year old battery. Per his calculations, the 25R is a better battery than the Donut battery because it is more efficient. A 10 year old battery.​
Donut is obviously a scam.​

Sad that their grand claims are just a big nothingburger. It may be a decent battery, but not what they claim it is.

Unsurprised in Virginia.

The Donut Labs battery apparently doubled the range of the Verge motorcycle. I just have a hard time believing the Donut Lab guys would go through the trouble of renting a display at CES to pull a prank. They already have a respectable product in there hub motor. They weren't looking for investors. Their claim does sound to good to be true, no rare elements, 5 minute charge , 100,000 cycles, no thermal runaway concerns and double current density cheaper than lithium ion. I do love how the Chinese proclaimed it was impossible to do because they couldn't do it with their exponentially larger labor force. We should know in the next few months as they start delivering the motorcycles and the competing manufacturers tear them down.
I'm guessing you to make a statement like you did you must know something that you're not willing to share with us.
The will "do" it a week after someone does it.

Donut released part 2 of their series. Per this guy's analysis, it performed better than a lithium battery typically does, but there was evidence of outgassing. Which if it did release gas, indicates it was not a successful test.



So far the testing has shown some unusual (in a good way) results, but also warning flags about their claims. The biggest claims have yet to be proven.

Not so sure it was outgassing as much as melting of the bag sealant

Some of the ratings are far beyond practical.
I assume running at half the max charge or discharge will be overkill and plenty safe if everything else checks out.

I can't wait to see the promise of solid state batteries achieved. I don't need to be an early adopter of it though. Maybe when it's time to trade in my R1T, solid state will be mature enough and available enough to be in my next EV. Hopefully that means effortless 500-600mi range without needing the built-in excuses (nobody needs more than 300!!) I keep hearing from the fans.

Same here. Can't wait but mostly because of shorter charing times. Yes 500+ miles will be nice for towing, etc but 5-10 min charge times will allow everyone to get an EV without the excuse that it takes too long to charge.

Looks like PHEVs will benefit from SSB first. Toyota has said 2027/2028 model year vehicles.

The initial cost of SSB will be higher than current chemical cells so gradual intro and get the costs down. Meanwhile the Chinese EVs have started to implement semi SSB now.

SSBs may be able to charge faster, but what will the existing charging network support?

The vehicle needs as many KWh's of juice to travel whatever distance it can at whatever speed you're driving. That's not changing significantly, other than the vehicle might be lighter. If today's charging infrastructure can deliver juice at whatever voltage and current it can, then are you not limited by that bottle neck? Sure, the battery *could* support charging faster, but you're still going to need a lot of KWhs in that pack - especially if you're thinking this technology unlocks significant range increases. And pushing that power into your battery, regardless of the capability of the battery to accept the charge, is limited by what the charging station can do.

As long as SSB can sustain high Kw over the majority of the pack capacity; that will greatly reduce charging times. I'd rather have 300kW charging from 0-80% vs. 500kW for only a little time with a huge taper at 50%
