Hi all,

I had asked this on another thread, which I can't seem to find anymore.

Does anyone know if there is automatic park (self park equivalent in Tesla) is being planned anytime soon?

Personally I don't care much for it. However, for my wife, that is a big deal and she would most likely not be in favor of keeping the R1S (at the end of our lease) if the self park feature is not an option by then. Any insights - appreciated.

My sense is that the camera views work SO well for most, that "self park" is likely a low priority.

That being said, it seems WAY easier to get self-park right than Highway Assist....

I hope you and your wife work this out, @akc5247!

I don't want to sound like an a$$hole, but how about she learns how to park?

Regardless of lease ending decision, it seems like a basic driving know-how...
She has no issues parking.
Recently our friends getting new Teslas (with the FSD free trial) and this self park feature is again back up high on her list.

Her point - and I agree to a certain extent - that if a model y which is half the price has that, why does the R1S not have it. (Not a full fledged comparison between the two models and she understands that.)

I agree it would be nice to have. The R1S does not currently provide this functionality, however it has all the sensors and computer capability to do so when the feature is ready. That said, the "bird’s eye 360 degree cameras" are game chargers when it comes to parking. It’s like a satellite or drone hovering right above the vehicle is sending you live footage. It should make parking a breeze.

Yeah, I don't think I miss anything - except captain's chairs - on the R1S.

Her - does not like the one pedal driving, and definitely wants the self park feature.

We rarely have big disagreements, but the R1S has proven to almost be that big one. We both know it is, at the end of the day, just a vehicle. So, if we can get that feature, great. Otherwise, we take the call in 2 years.

That's a silly point. Buick has a self park too so maybe why not that? Oh yeah, then you would own a Buick....

I am not defending Rivian. It just wasn't a part of the feature.

With all due respect, that is not a good defensive, when you spend almost $100k on a vehicle.

Everyone has their priorities. It doesn't mean the viewpoints are silly either.

Model Y doesn't have 360° cameras.

As mentioned, it was not a full fledged comparison. Just self park.
I'm saying that because you don't need the car to park itself when you can actually see where it is in real-time compared to the parking area.

After 20 years of faithful service at work, I earned a pension. As a present to myself, and a byproduct of being at the right place at the right time, I bought a stainless Daytona from an AD. It is already worth almost double what I paid, but I do have some concerns. 1. It only tells time in one region . 2. Has no gps or heart rate monitoring like my Galaxy watch does for a fraction of the price. I love everything else about it, but if the AD can't add these options, I'll probably sell it. (I'm kidding about selling)

Your money your choice. Obviously owning a Rivian is a little bit of a luxury for most. As a luxury item, a Rivian kinda stands on its own. It doesn't have do what everyone else's car does, any more than a luxury watch has to do what Apple or Samsung can do. If you like it and it fits all your needs, keep it. If it doesn't, something newer, flashier and more amazing will surely be out by that time.

As far as self park, it hasn't even been a rumor of being added any time soon.

The expectation that Rivian’s software stack is as good as Tesla’s is today is ridiculous. Tesla has been doing this longer than anyone else, and is multiple generations ahead of everybody. If impatience with certain impending features is deterring from purchasing/keeping a vehicle, then maybe Rivian isn’t your best option.

No. Really cool camera views, but sounds like that may not be relevant to your wife.
