I really do hope the R2 works out for us, we're wanting to go from two vehicles to one, currently have a BMW iX and a Wrangler 4xe, love the iX for the BEV perks (quiet, inexpensive operation, quick, etc.) and it's a killer highway cruiser.

However, we love the Wrangler because it has nice big side rails, it's sort of "door proof", it's easy to park against curbs with the beefier tires, it can get out of most situations (over parking stops, through medians, in reasonable deep water).

I really feel like the R2 will be a nice blend of the two, plus, we had an '08 T4R we just loved (V8 LTD), and this is definitely giving me "EV 4Runner" vibes.

The only thing that I'm concerned about in the LE is the "semi-active suspension" which to me means "more things to break $$" over time. This tech is new to Rivian compared to the R1 vehicles, no way to know if it's going to be problem free on early builds.
While not a new technology, it is certainly new to Rivian. But the entire vehicle is new so I'm sure there will be some growing pains. Hopefully not as many as the R1 had.

After seeing and hearing what non LiDar cars can do no point in waiting. The R2 launch cars will all be capable of point to point level 3 FSD. The only advantage the H3 brings is level 4 hands off / eyes off. This won’t come quick. In all honesty level 4 is very far away. The biggest thing we have not heard is what will Rivian do related to liability. Will they insure the car in accidents when in FSD??

I doubt Rivian would get involved as it's all covered by your car insurance as if you are driving the car. A real FSD that actually works should decrease the liability over the long term anyways.

I think we're leaning towards doing the LE in Catalina Cove and Black.

I already have Ocean Coast in my R1S and with our little guy almost 16 months, maybe a black interior is worth it lol.

From my understanding eyes off hands off would not be covered by your auto insurance. True level 4 will be a challenge to insure. Only one car company today has level 4 and it’s MB on limited roads. When the car is in FSD it is covered by MB liability insurance.

also what has been described as no driver behind the wheel would require different insurance.

Black is all you can initially get, it’s been confirmed the light interior won’t be available at launch.

In all honesty level 4 is very far away.
According to Scaringe, the company’s approach is allowing it to introduce levels of autonomy “faster,” as it progresses towards Level 4.
However, “it’s hard to say” when they will become available.
The CEO pointed to “2045, or 2040, or 2038 if, you know, we may be able to optimize sensors,” as the “big question is how well we can cover the corner cases.”

No, it's been rumored.
Out of spec has stated this is true, Kyle literally talks with all the management at Rivian and had a sit down with RJ. I'm not a betting man but I'd wager on this one.....

Just a quibble, but in the videos the “black” interior looks gray. Can anyone confirm? I can live with gray, but I really dislike a black interior.

It will be 1/2 the cost of the air suspension and not fail in 68k miles... I am fine with this as all the review cars were running the active suspension. I fear the ride quality will not be as good in cars without it. So, Tesla switched to this on all the current model Y's and the improvement is immense.
What you saying is the additional $4k is worth it given the improved ride quality you have seen in Tesla doing so?

I wouldn’t go as far as saying the R2 active dampers won’t fail before 68K miles. I had a failed rear-right damper after 3 yrs and about 50K miles of driving, while the air suspension itself has had no issues.

Most of the problems to date on the R1s have actually been failing or leaking dampers, not issues with the air springs or compressor. The air suspension failures are coming though, it just needs more time lol. Air springs and compressors tend to fail after about 5–7 yrs.
