I suppose if you're worried you could connect a trickle charger to the rear leads to ensure the 12v system doesn't die again until they address this problem.
That would only lead to false security. The BMS needs to be modified to monitor 12V status and charge those batteries when they need to be charged. The design, as it apparently stands, is a poor one.

oh forsure it's a TOTAL bandaid but a bandaid + working truck is a lot better than knowning the problem and having service come out again to change batteries / take back to service center.

Got the truck back.

The module that tells the truck it’s going to sleep and the high voltage should trickle the 12v doesn’t always tell it. It’s being worked on, hopefully the next software update contains the fix.

12v batteries got replaced because of it.

Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again before another update.
Time to test it.

I’d put some odds on the issue being a software regression bug from the fixes in 2022.15 that address standby battery drain.

At this point we don’t know if the design (how the R1 creators intended it to work), implementation (how it actually is working), or both are poor. With any luck it’s a bad implementation related to software.

If they designed it to not charge the 12V battery from the outset then that would be way beyond a poor design. I doubt that’s the case so let’s see how Rivian responds before accusing them of a poor design.

With the ongoing 12v battery issue has any have an idea as to why they are running 2 12v in parallel compared to all the other ev's using just 1

My guess is that it’s a packaging issue. It’s tight under the cowl.
