It's interesting that the entire factory was shut down for retooling, but I don't recall seeing anything about improvements/cost cutting for EDVs.
They'd been making line improvements for EDV as they went. The currently shipping EDV is noticeably different from the early-shipped ones. (Notably, they were the first vehicle to move to the Rivian-designed motors.)

I thought RJ quoted a 35% reduction in cost of materials for EDVs during a media factory tour a couple weeks ago.

Good to see Rivian reaffirming its projection numbers. Still 57,000 yearly production is merely 3 % of Tesla’s projected number. A long hill to climb, but Rivian will survive for awhile with the recent VW cash support

Makes sense, the feedback loop should be easier to process with a large customer - and they also have the capacity to handle unexpected issues better. Whereas as an individual consumer, if your vehicle needs to be recalled...

Tesla reported 21,551 for S, X and CT for Q2.

Compared to that similar market segment it looks a lot better.

Also the first to get an LFP battery, I think. They seem to be using the EDV/ECV as a test bed for new components, which makes sense.

Yes, much better when looking only at comparable price points and might even make a profit this year yet. R2 is going to be their Model 3 moment Tesla had.....can't come soon enough!! I don't think Tesla even made a profit until the high volume 3...but don't know for sure. I'm sure someone on here will chime in.

Actually Tesla did not have their first profitable year until 2020 after the Model Y was released.

Edit: That was 8 years after the Model S started shipping and 12 years after the first Roadster was delivered.
