3 weeks in and I have yet to try either the torch light or the speaker out. Weekend project.
8 months in and I have ONLY tried the torch light and speaker. Haven’t had a practical use for either thus far. I do like the ability of having the torch at an arm’s length away. Guess my mall crawling self hasn’t need to use it yet. Lol

8+ months in and I haven't tested either one yet.

I predict there will be a busy speaker-for- draw swap thread on the forum once the draws start being delivered. Of course, the best move would be for Rivian to offer the draw in The Shop.. which is exactly why they probably won't do that (or they'll make you book a SC appointment so a technician can pull your speaker out and push the draw in for you).

This was cancelled, no?
yes, probably because of inflation and to make it easier to produce from a ramp up perspective.

Once the back log is closer to being complete, Rivian could release the explore model at a lower price point to stay competitive in the EV space once new models start to arrive.

This would help them fill the gap until the R2 is being produced

I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear to be locking, does it?

The manual says you have to unlock it before you can remove it.

The speaker definitely locks, I assume this will have the same mechanism.

I'm sure the back locks the drawer in place. But I'm referring to a locking front. Like a locking glove box.

Good, the speaker is useless for most people. A drawer is useful for most people.

Knowing Rivian's pricing structure, it'll be something like this:
Rivian Camp Speaker: $349
Rivian Storage Drawer for Center Console: $349

Either way, it'll cost ya about the same to swap out....

Curios to how many people that don't need/want the camp speaker will be replacing it with the drawer, just prior to trading in/selling.

Easy choice to eliminate in next round of cost cutting measures. The flashlight being another one.

Happy my Rivian came standard with the speaker even though I don’t think I’ll ever use it. I hope the storage drawer shows up in the gear shop. I’ll buy that for sure.

I was surprised they didn't do that with the flashlight once it was available for purchase out of the gear shop.
You have to plug the hole, and the flashlight is not that expensive to make compared to the speaker, and arguable adds a lot more to the vehicle.

Given there is a power connection there for charging the speaker, it would be nice if there were USB-C's available in the storage drawer. It looks pretty basic.

I tested the speaker to make sure it worked but I haven’t needed to use it yet. The flashlight / torch, on the other hand, comes in VERY handy when helping my 86 year-old mom walk to/from the vehicle after dark. Even at the dimmest setting it is SO much better than the light from a phone! I just need to remember that it is available for other things when my phone is my go-to.
I totally dig the torch. And I wouldn't want to see it go. The 3 times I've used it for practical purposes, it was phenomenal.

That said, it's also a muscle-memory thing. There have probably been another half dozen times I could've and should've used the torch, but just grabbed my phone and toggled on the flash. I have to remind myself it's there!!
