rivian google maps vs native google maps

1. No alternate route information prior to starting, or during navigation. No information on what taking a different exit would entail, nor ability to quickly pick a different expressway before starting the drive. You can change preferences and the route is recalculated, but you can't click to select an alternate one.

Depending on how you tap on the destination in the vehicle when setting up a route, you can get alternates to show up - I believe if you tap on the name and not the "go" button, it will present alternates (if any are available). At lest, this is how it behaves in the R1 line - maybe RivianOS 2.0 is doing it differently in R2 (which would be weird, but odder changes have happened in this world....)

I will have to try that.

I frequently travel between the Outer Banks of North Carolina and my home. There are two different tunnel routes I can take, and depending on traffic, one will be faster than the other. It never gives me an alternative in the rivian nav.

Yesterday when we were coming home, the rivian nav pick one route, and my phone picked a different one. The difference was about 3 minutes. The rivian selected route was faster than the Google Maps one.

I'll have to try this, too. I haven't done any long trips in my R2 yet, but going to/from downtown Chicago with Google Maps on the phone always features multiple options that vary based on time of day and traffic.

I just looked at the route planner in the Rivian app and compared it to Google Maps. I’m seeing very different ETAs, sometimes 20 to 30 minutes off on 2 to 3 hour trips, and it does not offer any alternative routes.

Is this just a limitation of the mobile app, or is the onboard navigation significantly different?

From what I understand, the rivian navigation does/can not account for real time delays and adjust to another route when it will make the trip faster? (unless it been updated since RA told me this directly when asked).

It is truly worse than the Google Maps experience through Carplay. Is it "good enough?" I am sure there are people here who will die on the hill that it is, but in my experience and opinion it is nowhere near as useful.

It ended up going back to it as the closure was reversed a little while later, but we confirmed the cause be check Google maps on our phones (and the state DOT site)

Nope. The routing logic must be Google's because it is so similar most of the time. Yesterday it picked the longer, faster route. It was faster due to higher traffic on the shorter route.

It definitely reroutes due to traffic, but I'm not sure if it reroutes once you started driving on the route. What I mean is, I'm not sure if it changes the route if traffic increases. But it definitely picks the shortest time based on current traffic conditions.

In my case, the closure was due to an accident, and it happened when we were driving.
