Anyone have documentation onLoad index for R1S with 22” tires? 115 or 116?

sticker in door jam doesn’t say, but math works out that 115’s are fine.
Some R1S came with 115’s
Now they come with 116’s

Discount Tire near me now won’t allow 115’s

Online Manual insinuates 115’s

Called Rivian and did online chat, they don’t seem to know. How is that possible.

Want to put on Michelin X-ice. They should be fine but are rated 115’s. Noted at 2679lbs @ 50 psi.

Some Rivians from early on had 115 out of the factory, they are all 116 from the factory now. My opinion is 115 is safe, if you aren't maxing out towing. I even consider max payload safe on 115, but I'm not that fat...yet.

I run 115 AS and AT.

i got the x-ice snow precisely because 115 SL is not that different from 116 XL.

Agree, I just can’t discount tire to put them on. Hoping to get something from Rivian saying that 115 is good to go.

Gotcha. can you find an independent tire shop in your area that will do it?

Are people still having issues with Discount Tire not installing 115 load rated tires?

Seems like we can't get a straight answer from Rivian or Discount/America's Tire...

As stated above, Michelin X-Ice Snow 275/50R22 are 115 rated.

Costco sold them to me as winter tires for the R1S, no problem. When Costco in Aloha OR got nervous about working on their first Rivian, @Discount Tire in Hillsboro OR installed them for us on the R1S, no problem. The date of both encounters was Friday, 16 Feb 2024.

I figure if I subtract about 100 pounds from the maximum load, I'll decrease the maximum weight by about 1.3% -- which should make up for the 0.9% decrease in the tires' weight rating compared to the 116-rated factory 21" AS.

I can't speak to anyone else's experience, but mine has been good.

Happy to hear from people who know this stuff better than I do!

yes, that is 115 but it is also XL, typically an SL tire being used for for non-SL purposes needs to be derated by 10%…

When I called and asked my local Discount if it would be an issue to install the 115 X-ice they stated they wouldn’t be able to install. However, since they sell them on their site for the R1S I just ordered online and scheduled an install. I figured if they wouldn’t install them I would be able to ask why they sell them on their website. However, I did not mention the load rating upon arrival and they installed without any question.

My advice, order online and don’t bring up load rating. They’ll likely install without issue, and if there is an issue they’ll refund you since they sold you the tires and wouldn’t install.

Apparently some X-Ice Snow sizes are SL and some are XL. Potentially confusing.

My X-Ice Snow tire sidewalls say, "275/50R22 115H EXTRA LOAD".

Does that mean mine are XL, and don't require the 10% adjustment, but just the 1% adjustment in total weight (about 80-100#) that I've been assuming?

Thanks so much!

Yes, all you have to do is use 94% of max load which is 48 psi (2590#) which gives you an axle load of 5180#. For an SL tire need to de-rate 10% first, so 115 SL drops to 2411, 94% is 2266, axle max load of 4532, which is 418# too low…

All this to say if not using the vehicle to tow/extreme high load traveling at high speed/temps…then 115 should be fine and not need to be derated…

Just a couple weeks ago tried to get a set of Mickey Thompson baja Boss A/T 115's purchased/installed at Discount Tire at Beaverton Oregon 185th store. They said no it required the much heavier LT version.. Called Micky Thompson tech line. They said no problem at all, 115's are well within spec for the R1S. So went through private installer 503 Tires, mobile install. Remy got the tires, they all come out of the same warehouse, and did an excellent job mounting and the balance is absolutely perfect.

Hopefully Discount Tire gets their act together; loosing business. I've purchased many, many sets of tires from them over the last 5 years.

In addition bought new rims, Atomic Wheels AW01's. Now have rugged looking set up and saved 11 lbs per corner, coming from 22's.
