Software has been great. Has skipped a beat here and there but no consistent issues.

Build quality seems as good as any vehicle.

Could have been the tires for ride quality. Tires seem to make a big difference on range, ride and handling. Better tires seem to be available when due.

Today? I would get same R1S quad. Maybe get the 22" range tires next time.

No fire or boiling oil unless you include the jet like acceleration.

Ride quality is very much about tires and suspension settings. In off-road or on the high setting it is bouncy which is expected.

Overall quality is good for build and software and with a Gen2 it will keep getting better.

End 23' S ( Gen 1 production sweet spot IMO) . Does everyting I need it to and want it to. Really the only one in its size/class. Only minor issues that coincided with reg service. Estimating my next vehicle will be Gen 10 R1S FSD quad.

As the title says, potential new owner & have Qs.

About me: I'll be trading out my Lucid AGT(3.5 years of ownership) for TriMax, if we decide to move forward. I have owned a couple of MS as an early adopter as well.

Primary reason for change: Lucid AGT software reliability.(Don't want to bring out the dirty laundry in this forum).

1) I understand from what I read, Rivian's software is a lot more stable than Lucid. However, with that said, what are the most annoying software gremlins the owners have faced?
2) Build quality: I have read about suspension issues. Are they common across the board? Panel gaps? How is the build quality? I understand, after owning multiple vehicles, things do fall apart, but would like to get insight of anything that is more common than not.
3) Test drove Dual and Tri. Same road, same drive settings, same test route, but the tri felt more comfortable. We could feel the road on the dual, but the tri was more comfortable. Does the tri have 'better' suspension? Or is it the seats on the tri that much better?

4) For current owners: If you had to replace your R1S, what will you replace it with today?
5) For any Lucid transplants, here, please DM your opinions. What you liked and disliked?

Our goal, if we switch, is to get an EV. We have owned ICE German cars and brand loyalty is not high on the list for me. Storage space is important (Lucid does this best imo), and a reliable drive. Staying away from MB for now. Audi & BMW are option.

Concerned if I jump from Lucid to Rivian, will it be akin to from fire into boiling oil?

Thank you all in advance. I'm sure I will have more Qs based on the responses.

Happy hols

Not a Rivian owner (R2 listed) but as far as Audi and BMW, the Q6 and the upcoming iX3 are similarly sized and compare to the R2m not the R1S. I have a (Used) Q8 Etron which is a great driving car, but a less than perfect road tripper due to range and port location. Using Tesla’s chargers can be pretty problematic. I did just use a RAN, easy peasy. I’m going to personally be choosing between a R2 trimotor and the BMW with its alleged 400 range.

2026 R1T
I went from a Nissan Murano to a 2026 R1T Dual. I am extremely happy with the purchase and opting for the max battery was a great decision for me. In Florida, we don't have cold weather issues so I would read those threads from the NW, as well as those related to performance in hilly terrain. I had an R2 reservation, but my prior needed work after 8 years and 130k, so it was prudent to move on. I mostly drive for work, and take the family camping. The R1T does everything I need it to do, and I have had minor issues like most people. The windshield washer fluid was leaking, and Rivian was able to fix the issue under warranty. Any software issues were fixed by doing a reset (probably more often then it should be needed), and the bed cover latch springs need to be replaced. Are these issues acceptable, not really for what we pay, however, I think you will be happy with the switch. However, it really depends on your vehicle needs. The Lucid luxury appears to be best in class, so if that is what you desire, the Rivian may seem like a downgrade. TBH, Tesla probably has the best software reliability, but Rivian quickly fixes its issues and appears to be improving over time. Most people are very happy with their Rivian, including me, but like any car, it is really about your and your needs. I plan to stay with Rivian for a long time, and bought my R1T as I do too many mile for a lease. I know new models will come out for the next 8-10 years, and I plan on keeping my Rivian until at least the end of the warranty. My current experience with Rivian since I bought my car in August has not changed that plan! I hope this helps and good luck!

Rivian 24 R1T Dual Large, 26 R1S Dual Perf Max,, Toyota Highlander
I have 2 of them 24 R1T Dual Large and 26 R1S Dual Max Performance. Came from BMw 5 series, Toyota 4 runner and Highlander(still have this one).
Software is just fine Gen2 is a much more refined vehicle, I would replace with another Rivian. These are much more refined than Tesla barring FSD. I'm in northern California driving from bay area to Tahoe and back you don't even feel like you drive the seats in Gen1 are more comfortable! Maybe Tri is better in Gen2. I have an R2 on order as well.
By any chance are you in Atlanta?

I've been driving EVs for quite a few years. Currently have an Audi etron Chronos Edition and a recently purchased 26 R1T tri. The Audi cost 20K less than the Rivian and is far superior in fit and finish, interior quality, quietness and many other amenities. I have been waiting for quite a few years for a smaller EV pickup to replace a Ram Limited (also superior to the Rivian in fit, finish and amenities) but I don't see any on the horizon, so I went ahead and bought the Rivian. I am actually very happy with the R1T, no problems or issues, just think it falls a little short of other vehicles in a similar price point. Having said that, those other vehicles don't have 850 horsepower or a gear tunnel or a useful frunk. Overall, very satisfied and would be first in line for an R2 truck.

I would like to see miles per hour speed limit signs converted to kilometers per hour in the center display when the vehicle is set to the metric system. Teslas do this. Sure, I’m in the US, but we can use the metric system on our devices and life if we want to.

It should be able to do this already. I was up in Canada and changed it in the display settings screen.

Without me doing anything, it added km/h above the speedo (if I'm recalling correctly), but kept mi/h in the center of the speedo.

The speedometer shows your speed in kph with large characters, and your speed in mph in small characters above the kph speed when set to display the metric system while in the US. But the speed limit graphic is in mph even when you set the system to the metric system while in the US.

Teslas converts the speed limit graphics to kph which is fun for people expecting mph speed limit signs.

Why do you need to switch from MPH to KPH in the US?

I like driving over 100 (kph). Actually, I just prefer the metric system when riding a bicycle because it isn’t a big deal to ride at a speed of 30+ kph compared to 30 mph. And it is easier to calculate a gradient in your head using the metric system instead of Imperial. It is purely a personal preference and it aligns with the rest of the world. Plus, work in medicine is all done in the metric system.
