I'll probably pay monthly for it. I don't keep cars long enough to do the one time. The odds of me keeping this R1 for another 5 years are pretty slim.

I’m not so sure the math is so simple. If you keep the car for 3 years, monthly adds to $1,800. But I could absolutely see the value of the car sold being more than $700 additional because it has lifetime Autonomy+. Even after 2 years at $1200 from monthly payments, I could envision the $1300 you “overpaid” for lifetime being recouped when sold.

Of course, we won’t know until years from now what the market bears out! 🙂
Historically, Tesla cars with lifetime FSD rarely sold for a premium above Tesla cars without FSD

Here’s an idea - if it’s purchased outright, why not give the owner the option to transfer it to another Rivian or let it stay with the vehicle upon sale?

I am hoping that the "monthly" plan can be bought for one month at a time, then cancelled, then bought again for a month when needed.
I can see using it like the Tesla charging membership, turning it on for a road trip.
Most of my driving is local / city / suburban these days.

I will more than likely purchase it if it's any good (better than the experience we enjoy now)

I wonder if that is still true these days now that FSD is starting to move out of the vaporware realm.

So so so many people don’t blink at the $5k price tag for lifetime performance package! Assuming most, or at least a lot, of Rivian drivers consider that a reasonable price…then I think it’s potentially a steal at $2500. This absolutely will be as impactful to some drivers – and it’s half the price! We’ll see how it is when live, and how quickly they provide the promised updates, of course. But for now, I’m taking them on their word for how it’ll roll out.

Obviously, some people have no interest in the performance modes, so don’t pay for that software. Same will be the case for Autonomy+. But if it works as promised, I see it as half the price of performance and more than twice as good for people who want/need those features. (Check my math…4X as good of a price? 🙂)

I would wager there’ll be a larger number of people who paid $5k for performance, yet use sport mode maybe once a month, than there will be people who pay $2.5k for Autonomy+ and use it that seldom.

Maybe it would have been more scientific if the pole clarified which owner base the question is intended for (Gen 2 R1 or R2/R3 future owners). I hope to keep my Gen1 for a while, but $2500 one-time on the R2 seems like a great deal, but I love that Rivian is offering monthly too. I suspect that those with Gen2 will want to see how many of the features and capabilities promised on Thurday actually show up; probably many won't be there by Feb'26. I also suspect that, in reality, paid users will slowly ramp up instead of a flood in Feb'26 as everyone watches to see how fast it improves from testing of actual owners on the road. Get ready for lots of new Autonomy content in 2026 from the usual suspects:clap:.

I would pay for it IF I was allowed to use it. Person in the passenger seat is very much against any type of autonomy. She they have their reasons. My G1 R1S also make this issue irrelevant so I continue the mascaraed.

Nope. It’s not even close to Tesla’s software. I have 7 neighbors that purchased the car just because they can Push a button and the car departs and parks itself at the chosen destination.
I personally wouldn’t pay $99 a month or 8500 for the lifetime driving capability they offer
With my travels, my vehicle stays at home in the garage, so It would be a waste of money for me.

Just need a clarification.

WIll this be available for 2025 Gen 2s?

Also, is this "option" transferable at sale, or would the new owner need to enable it again on their dime?
