Highway Assist Not Available Until Your Next Drive

I do not have the premium highway assist and am fine with the normal on the interstates. Just wish it would do it on secondary roads. Yesterday I was on the interstate and tried to engage highway assist and the message on the dash was something to the effect “highway assist is not available until your next drive.” Just asking the forum experts what this is all about.

It sounds like you got put in "assist jail" for not paying attention, so it shut off and won't let you re-enable for this drive. I believe there was a conversation about it here on the forums yesterday.

This normal. If Autonomy disengages because it detects a fault, it is disabled until you put the vehicle in to park, then start again. This behavior csn be caused by failing to take control when requested, failing to pay attention when prompted or vigorously overriding of the Autonomy system, for example.

I’ve even experienced this while being careful and paying attention! It seems to happen when the system has its own issues, which have become more frequent with this update.

This is the same thing that happens with Tesla FSD. I was placed in jail a few times until I figured everything out. So far…I’ve avoided Rivian jail and also mellowed out since getting my R1T.
