Pulled into a charger in Kearney Nebraska and saw a Rivian backed into supercharger stall. Did a double take and realized it was an R2. They were driving it from Illinois to California.

I don't have any details to share other than I saw it and it's fantastic!

The guy we talked to was great. Very friendly and willing to answer questions that he could. Offered to let us sit in it as long as we didn't take pictures. We didn't take him up on it.

If you have any questions let me know. I'll answer if I can.

This was vin #5 in glacier white. He said it came off the line on Friday. After some testing etc. they were on the road 3:30 am Saturday morning.

What info do you have? When do the first ones get into employee hands?
I didn't notice but I assume he had dealer plates. He is a Rivian employee based in Irvine. RJ got Vin #1 😅Kyle maybe #2 - just kidding! My impression is they were on a shakeout mission. Along with others driving to California.

It had the all terrains on. They aren't as aggressive as the R1 all terrains.

I would assume these are going to go to leadership in California. This means they are done making MVB's and are not making full saleable vehicles. Interesting they wouldn't ship it. Guess they will take any testing data they can get.
My impression was this was his vehicle. I didn't ask and could be wrong. He did say who got vins 2, 3 and 4 and they were all higher ups...vp types.

Quite the sighting - one of the first five and straight into a cross country trip. Thanks for sharing.

Dealer Plate? I’m assuming (based on timing) it wasn’t the other one sighted Friday (with dealer plates). This guy was likely not an employee owner but rather an employee tester?

Employee delivery. They had to take delivery at the factory. That was the stipulation. Manufacturer plates are probably temporary until it could be registered to CA.

That's a heck of a stipulation. Maybe Rivian will let me buy mine this month if I agree to drive it out to Irvine and back to Plymouth.

Nope. Anyone who wanted to buy one. And I hear there was a lottery of sorts for the very first ones, with factory delivery as the catch.

Really!, Very cool. So Employee Deliveries have started. That means they have already configurated a while back if so. This is great to hear.

Not a Rivian

He is likely one of the higher ups too. Unless he's just a friend of the exec who was paid/asked to drive across the country to deliver them the car based on factory delivery stipulation...

I've already forgotten the source, but I read somewhere that employee deliveries start sometime this month. This sighting seems to support that story.

Wish the employee R2 owners could do a big monthly post on the vehicle as a PR push. Much to learn aboutvin the real world results.
