I'm sure they are struggling with GVWR. Max pack + underbody shield + winch probably doesn't leave much cargo capacity.
Every tire has a 115 load rating, good for 2679 lbs. The sticker on my truck puts the individual rear tire load at 2435 lbs (GAWR is 4870 lbs). I'm not familiar enough with how those numbers are calculated to know if it's the tire or what that they are using to ultimately determine the weight rating. With the front axle being rated at 4134 lbs on my sticker, I expect they could probably bump that number up a little to accommodate the winch.

That's disappointing but sounds true.

It's strange they couldn't finish the winch design when they did the front end.

Rivian's business plan is the opposite of embracing aftermarket products.
For what it's worth, I did ask Tony C. about the max pack and if they were attempting to retain the same payload rating of the 135kWh trim on the 180.

That "hardball" question was ignored.

I'd assume some of the GVWR is going to come down to the air suspension. Could be that they'd have to beef up the suspension if they wanted to keep the same payload rating with the max pack. But if they don't and the tow rating goes down it would be silly, since many of us are going max pack to facilitate towing in the first place.

There were comments from a user a few months ago that during a first mile event, they were chatting with an employee from Rivian that said testing of the Max Pack was apparently running into suspension issues during the and were working to beef it up.

I'm doing some heavy paraphrasing, but pretty sure that was the gist of the post. So it at least can be inferred that the payload/towing ratings will be the same or at least quite similar to the 135 pack config.

@Dark-Fx Hope?!

Just saw this comment from a month ago on Reddit FWIW. Who knows how accurate it is, but if it’s true, I’d be quite pleased.

It'd be nice if Rivian would just talk about it like they have been the Enduro motors. We've at least also got confirmation that the kitchen and gear tunnel are going back to the drawing board and an "estimated" timeline for those. GM is announcing the Sierra EV for $107k with 400+ miles range in two days, shipping Spring 2024, following the Silverado EV in the Fall. I guess Rivian still has a year to bring their plans to market on it.

I'm still of the opinion that they don't want to encourage max pack switchers. Any guess on the added weight?

I'm hopeful the radio silence for the max pack is because it's going to include 800v and 4 enduro motors, and Rivian don't want to cannibalize their own large pack sales.
c'mon R1X!

shhhh
We most not let the common R1T owners with their puny 400V trucks know what is coming. I hope you are wrong about the motors.

300-350 lbs seems low to me. I think when I ran the numbers I was guestimating closer to 500-600 lbs.
Based on a few of these threads, I've dropped the extra underbody shielding to reduce weight. I'm keeping that Max Pack config though, which means I probably won't see a truck until 2026 at this rate... LOL. ??

Hmmmmm… with the new revised estimates, wondering what is ideal (what with total payload needs) on max pack vs. large pack…

I’m hoping the enduro motors (dual) have effective rear differential locks, because then we might be able to leverage that increased efficiency & in-house software/hardware expertise over the time of the life of the vehicle to preserve efficiency or better-yet, earn increased range efficiencies with OTA updates. Decisions decisions…

I very much doubt that any other truck will have higher payload ratings than the ~1,700lbs. of the R1T since a Lightning @OutofSpecKyle tested was only 1,600lbs.

The max pack upgrade should add 400-450lbs base on the weight of tesla 5kWh modules
