Rivian offering preorder price difference vouchers for remaining price protected pre-order holders

From my email: Hmm, so does that mean that we'll still be able to place custom orders AND get a discount? Interesting this wording is saying "later this summer"...is that before or after Sept 30th? Rivian isn't too great on timelines and seasons 🤣

Rivian offering preorder price difference vouchers for remaining price protected pre-order holders

Indeed, there's now more discount on the dual motor. The cheapest R1T I see in my store page right now is 86k CAD -> 63k USD for a dual motor (non-perf) large pack. That's a screaming deal.

Rivian offering preorder price difference vouchers for remaining price protected pre-order holders

So those with early pricing are limited to the R1 Shop availability if they want the discount? ☹ EDIT: Just logged in, yeah. No more way to configure. That's super lame. I've been watching the shop for a long time and at least in the Vancouver BC location, selection has been limited. The...

Tesla engineer urges Rivian to move charge port location on R2, R3, R3X for Supercharger access

If you accept that the port has to be in the rear (personally I'd prefer front), in the following garage charger placement, option 2 is the shortest cord and will definitely work with all home EVSEs:

Tesla engineer urges Rivian to move charge port location on R2, R3, R3X for Supercharger access

RJ addressed this in an interview with Eletrek: * They don't want to fuck over existing Rivian owners with their home charging setup * It's cheaper for them for the single motor version since they don't have to run as much HV wiring * The Tesla cable reaches fine as-is because the port is close...

    Sixth R2 Teaser Posted!

Ask any Ioniq 5 owner how well that works in practice. It doesn't. Forget about RainX etc. too. Thankfully the 2025 refresh finally is adding one! Would be a big disappointment to see the R2 without a rear wiper.

What was your Canadian trade-in experience?

It's more complicated than just the trade in value Rivian offers. In BC that amount gets reduced from the vehicle cost, which can put you in a totally different luxury tax bracket, saving you loads of money at the end of the day (yes, that's how it works, it's not like income tax brackets).

    Minor damage repair estimate: $49,880!

Did they provide an itemized list of the costs? That is insane.

Cybertruck Highway Range Test by Out Of Spec

I think the biggest caveat worth adding is the starting SOC. Thinking more about this, I bet the Rivian vs Cybertruck range-added/time graph would look wildly different if you plugged at 20%.

Cybertruck Highway Range Test by Out Of Spec

The classic 1 hour long video from Out of Spec explains (and adds other context), but tldw: it's result from their own test, which they decided to use as their own "standard": I'm glad to see at least some of the test variables included in the graph mouse-over info (software version notably...

Cybertruck Highway Range Test by Out Of Spec

Not quite so simple. Here's the second graph which shows the user experience, taking into account efficiency* * of course there are STILL more caveats and variables, like test conditions, and that this data is derived from a theoretical max charging curve if there was no thermal derating...

NACS Adapter Rolling Out “Next Summer” and 1,000V RANs?

"200 miles of range in 15 minutes" is no problem for e-GMP vehicles (Hyundai/Kia). Maybe this means the RAN will be opening up to the public soon?

Rivian Max Pack EPA Data (document shows 141-142 kWh usable battery)

So I don't know a whole lot about the EPA range testing, but does Rivian have control over these coefficient numbers? That could explain the better (rated) "efficiency" in the max pack: Large pack [1]: Max pack [2]: [1] https://www3.epa.gov/otaq/datafiles/FOI_PRIVT00.0192_APPIPT1.PDF [2]...

RAN Charging Costs are now live! (at certain stations)

Rivian delivered something on time! 👏 In all seriousness, I fully support their move. Having free charging makes for a poor user experience because of bad incentives so people use the limited DCFC stations inappropriately.

Dual Motor Max Pack more efficient than Dual Motor Large Pack?

I'm also skeptical a different battery can change the efficiency, but I'm no chemical or electrical engineer. How is the MPGe number calculated I wonder. Is it just derived based on the EPA cycle range and energy required to recharge the vehicle? We do know that manufacturers can adjust the...
