I'm guessing a portion of those opted out to take delivery
Yes, that figure would be interesting to know. As I said, I don't think they want to encourage a lot of order changes to max pack at this point in time.

They know the current max pack order queue size and have a 2023 max pack production plan (hopefully). They don't want that to change much.

Rivian doing the "store" and giving early max pack preorder holders that option has been a good way to handle the situation

It's quite common actually
..........

12VDC is easy to wire or carry a battery like that guy. Weld a receiver on the front, and then there's no reason to lug a winch around or make the truck ugly with a big winch bumper
It's a good demo of the problem with a rear winch. If he was actually traveling he would want to go forward.

Most of us assume that the Rivian winch won't be in the bumper. It will likely be recessed like in the Defender and other higher end offroad focused vehicles

While I seldom buy Harbor Freight I would with a receiver winch

I've got a request into Warn asking if they have plans. Doubtful I'll hear back if it's an OEM solution, but who knows.

Looking at what the stock hard bumper looks like behind the valence, I'm not likely to attempt to make my own integrated solution to fit behind there.
"Unfortunately, there are no plans to release a winch mounting system for the Rivian pickups" Straight from Warn. Of course, that doesn't mean that Rivian isn't doing all the work themselves.

Clearly some big announcements are on the horizon. In 2023 Rivian will announce the R2, the use of their own 300hp motors, 800V charging, updates to R1 including a winch, lights, roll bar and other overlanding essentials, plus Max Pack availability, and probably a "Plaid" R1 at 1200hp using 4 of the new motors. I imagine this blitz is being carefully orchestrated to bring in the max sized pack of new orders.

Why would they steal their own thunder and threaten the entire project for the sake of answering a Reddit thread? They wouldn’t.

It‘s all coming down the pike. Stay frosty and soon all will be revealed ;)
I'm waiting for the punch line..... ?

That means they are all focusing on the R1S......

I had this winch issue with my 2014 4Runner. There were plenty of winch mounting options for the Trail and SR5 models, but none then for my Limited. I ended up taking off the front of the body, cutting and welding on the Trail model winch mounting bracket, cutting a hole through the front grille, and fabricating a faceplate. It was a big job, and I'ld rather not repeat with a $100k truck. And the 4Runner didn't require an upgraded battery for the winch. Photos of the mod are posted at:

Warn is focusing on the R1S? Warn doesn't have a way to power a winch on Rivian. They may not even have a satisfactory attachment point on R1

Or just use rivian’s own eventual winch bumper, which Rivian has mentioned is in the works at various times.

I was chatting with a Rivian employee a couple of weeks ago about off roading gear. He said the winch is still in development but at least a year away as they are reworking it to reduce cost, weight, and looking at mounting positions to possibly make it removable. He also mentioned that rock sliders were being developed too which will likely be released to market before the winch.

Rivian has a couple patents about the winch system, the latest one is about how they intend on integrating the control system for it. Would they go through this much effort to not actually implement it? Maybe.

It's definitely coming, it's just a matter of when. My ideal Rivian ecosystem is one that embraces aftermarket products, and even some bespoke OEM mods like this.

That's disappointing but sounds true.

I'm sure they are struggling with GVWR. Max pack + underbody shield + winch probably doesn't leave much cargo capacity.

It's strange they couldn't finish the winch design when they did the front end.

Rivian's business plan is the opposite of embracing aftermarket products.

at least they’re going sort of the private label /“collaboration” route with established companies, with reputations for high quality products - snow peak for the kitchen, cargo stuff is all Yakima, their off road recovery kit is warn/factor 55.

give SEMA time to catch up. There are still very few R1 out in the world.
