They had about 71K orders as of december 15th 2021. With 25K produced at the end of 2022, they should be able to get through the rest of the preorders by the end of 2023 even including producing some of the Amazon EDV. Unless people's order are in state with no SC, I don't see how Rivian can put their estimates beyond 2024.

This is what is frustrating for me. They are hoping to build 100K vehicles this year, so I don't see how there should be any issue at all getting everyone who put a preorder in before 2022 a new car.

They must be adding in like 50K+ dual motor or price-hiked vehicles to production in the middle of 2023

Other than a random Reddit post I don't know anyone who got their Rivian (other than famous Vlogger or 2) who paid the higher price before us pre-order holders.
? not an influencer, just a random schmuck here who had a 3/8/22 order for an R1T delivered on 6/14/22. We’re not as rare as you might think.

I would go all up to delivery day and refuse it at your driveway. They can’t make you take it, and you don’t have to write them that check. It’s a mild inconvenience, but I like it.

I’m in the same boat… May 21 pre-order. Adventure package R1T, blue, 22” First estimated delivery was Oct-Dec 22. We even got the “May 2022- Get ready for purchase” email. Then pushed to 2024, now end of 2024. CS cannot describe the details pertaining to my configuration that resulted in the push back delivery date. I feel slighted, angry, confused and more angry. We are not well off and had to change our spending habits to save up a solid down payment… we installed a charger (in early October hoping for Dec. Delivery) we signed the purchase agreement… we have done everything to prepare and still feel like our nuts are in a vise. When we ordered, Rivian felt different. Have a letter from RJ, here’s an artistic R1T picture to hang up and dream about… it felt like they had our back. Ever since the price change debacle, we have had only upsetting changes and bad news. It would be different if Rivian kept up the CS we were accustomed to from the start. No apology, no reason, no detailed explanation. No free merchandise… not the customer based experience we were hoping for.
We are also thinking of other plans moving forward. The ford lightning is not as good of a truck. But at least it could be in my driveway before 2025…. I sincerely hope there is a change in their delivery priorities and we move up into 2023. The realities of this happening are small, but maybe someone at Rivian actually cares about their customers and their families to initiate change. I’ll continue being stupidly optimistic… for a little while longer.

Bellevue SC is slammed currently, I would not be surprised if Rivian is delaying deliveries in the Washington area until they can either build out more capacity in the existing SC or bring the other two (one for EDVs and a second consumer SC) Seattle area SCs online.

The Portland, OR SC is also not expected to be online till August, but a second temporary SC was recently brought online here to help eliminate the need for Oregon R1s to be sent up to Bellevue for service.

My R1S delivery was pushed to Q4 of this year, and I fully expect that the Portland SC not opening till late Q3 is part of that delay.
Yeah, shitty for you, but also makes sense from a customer satisfaction POV.

I wouldn’t count on that. I got on the F150L waiting list in Dec ‘21. It has been radio silence since then. The dealer did send me a message a year later to say they had a couple of leftover vehicles available for the special price of only $10k over MSRP.

I think Rivian is limiting the amount of deliveries per service center. Lots of the early service centers are at capacity so that they are pushing the new vehicles to areas with new service centers going in.
This. Twice CS has told me the Bellevue service center is too overwhelmed. I got pushed back from this year until 2024 as well but as others have said, I wouldn't want to take delivery and wait months for service if I needed it. Apparently there are at least 2 more service centers planned in the Seattle area.

That’s some grade A planning right there.

“We built lots of vehicles and knew where to send them but we can’t because we poorly planned our SC capacity to deliver and service the vehicles”.

Maybe the plan was to over engineer them so they would never break.

If you also accouting for the dual motors orders that supposed to be delivery this year, which mean they will have to push the quad motor to 2024 because of profit margin to keep them alive.
I think that they will/should only include the dual motor for the people who are forced to have dual motors because they cancelled the max pack + quad motor. So I'm in that camp and I'll be getting the dual motor + max pack. Rivian is just driving people crazy with these estimated delivery changes and its making people hate the company more and more. Every move they make, people are just going to see it as a reason to output their frustration on the company. I know this ebike BS is pissing me off lol.

This post pains me a lot to write, but...

I got my R1S reservation in December '21, and was told then to expect a 2nd half - 23 delivery. Then the next iteration of delivery schedules come out in October (I believe), and it slips to first half of '24. Then, last months delivery schedule announcement pushes it out to 2nd half of 24, of which I now expect to be November- December of 24, at the earliest.

On top of my anticipated three year wait, I see that many new reservation holders have jumped the line, in Rivian's attempt to generate higher revenue per vehicle. I would love to have a Rivian, and I love the looks of them as I see them driving down the road. But, you know, life moves on, and I have found better things to do with my money, and I agreed with my wife that maybe we should forego the Rivian in favor of those things.

So I am not going to take the Rivian. I am really ticked off at Rivian because of this. IMO, these pushbacks have been Riv's way of saying to us pre-price increase orders "Yes, you can have your Rivian, but F-You, you'll get it when we want you to get it, and only after everyone else gets theirs." I feel part of their motivation is to push these out as long as possible to force us either to cancel, or ship only when it is convenient for them.

So I am not going to cancel my order. Instead, sometime after I get my 8-steps notification, and only before I absolutely have to pay for the Rivian, will I cancel. This is my F-You back to them. I know it's minor, I know they don't really care and will just move my reservation to the next one in line but it's the only little thing I can do. After all, if I cancel now, then RJ, Sandy, and others can just point to my cancellation as evidence that pushing deliveries out for us is working. I am not going to give them that little bit of satisfaction.

I'm surprised by how many people seem to take the Rivian delays personally. Its a business, they want sales, but they also have to have a business strategy, to grow and survive. I know people complain about Rivians communications, but what can they say that would make someone feel better about their order getting delayed, the customer would just complain about whatever situation caused it. If it isn't getting delivered when you want it, fine, go buy something else, there are lot of other vehicles out there. Lots of people have/had multiple reservations for different vehicles, instead of banking on just one. I had one for an Ioniq 5, dealer wanted ADM, I skipped it. I also have one for a Cadillac Lyriq Delayed Edition, which GM was targeting for Spring 2022 when I made the reservation in September 2021. I still have no date for that, and don't plan on taking delivery once its ready, since I have my R1T, which I reserved after the Lyriq. I'm not bitter about, I just think its funny. I received far more communication from Rivian than GM during this process.

I don't see any point in cancelling an order unless you just don't like or need the vehicle, or its not financially responsible. Orders get pushed back, orders get moved up, some people get early shop access. If the orders are delayed because the regional service center is slammed, and then another service center opens in the area, the orders may get moved back up. People who cancel now because their orders were pushed to 2024 are going to be complaining in 6 months if others who were also pushed back to 2024 are moved back up 6 months to 2023.

IMO this represents the vast majority of “line jumpers” - overloaded SCs can’t deliver to earlier order holders, while other SCs can deliver to later order holders. Yes, there are some unexplainable exceptions. Yes, they have done a poor job in planning and opening SCs. But I still highly doubt it’s a devious plan to deliver post price vehicles to reap higher profit.

This simply isn't going to work.

The issue is things change as time goes on. New rationalities for keeping it or canceling it come up.

All you've really done is extended your interest free loan to Rivian for a good while longer.

I would say that people who had a very early R1T LE reservation, then add a post-price hike later reservation, then switch their very early LE reservation to an R1S and get their guide to fulfill their post-price hike order to an R1T are pretty rare, actually.

Even rarer: someone like this that continues to put forth the deception that they are an average post-price hike reservation holder that randomly won the Rivian lottery.
