In the last few weeks Rivian did the following for R1S in fairly quick succession:
1. Open shop to general public
2. Leasing
3. Drop in lease price
4. Releasing Standard+ for free

I’m guessing there’s a real mismatch between supply and demand at current prices. Personally im going to hold out until things stabilize, as it feels that these demand levers haven’t/won’t do enough to hold them over until R2 release. I’ve been burnt by Tesla on the MY discount fiasco before and don’t want a round 2.

Meh, I'm the last person to give rivian blind passes, but they announced a new battery pack in late 2023, the lease prices for R1S had to come more into line with R1T (4 vs 12% interest rate), and opening up shop helps them move vehicles for pre-order holders that already don't want that specific trim.

There's probably some truth to what you say, they are definitely aware they need to turn a profit. But I wouldn't say desperate yet.

When other EV companies do whatever it takes to sell vehicles it’s considered competitive strategy, when Rivian does it, it’s considered desperate? They can’t seem to win no matter what they do…

I can assure you my choice words for Tesla when they dropped MY price by 16k did not include “competitive strategy”.

That’s understandable if you had purchased one at a higher price. My point is that their job is to keep producing and selling vehicles. If this keeps them on track then it’s a good move.

I’m extremely happy to see this price drop.

Kia is toast.

R1S all day long for $1,000 more.

$3,750 tax credit is just icing on the top for the consumer.

The $7,500 EV credit is included with leasing. (Offer includes upfront capitalized cost reduction of $7,500 provided by the lessor.)

Lease pricing means residuals are expected to be high - this is good news across the board for owners and new buyers. No bank in their right mind would underwrite a lease if the planned residuals were way off.

Availability in store means they are increasing capacity and reducing quality errors.

Re-jigged pricing is a -great- strategy, because people will naturally option up but it keeps the entry point much lower, thereby creating a more logical continuum between the upcoming R2 and the R1.

I only see good news here. We’ll see what they say in April after Q1, though.

Standard+ is not free. and why would it be desperate? its evolution of the business. desperate would be slashing prices, which its not doing.
Standard+ came out today for the same pricing as the old standard so it’s basically giving it away for free
