That's a very reasonable plan--stay cool while making the decision. You need to make a purchase of this scale rationally. There _are_ cons (in addition to the price). I'm five months into my ownership of an R1T and don't regret the purchase at all, but each of us is different. (Also, I got a Compass Yellow truck. That's worth a bit of extra impetuousness!)

Keep us posted!

I would echo all of the positives here. I really love my Dual/Max/Performance configuration as a package and a concept. Also it's my first EV, and the advantages in the right scenario are clearly documented. I am trying to be happy with it.

However- (and don't flame me... this is my opinion as a consumer) I paid Porsche money in cash for this vehicle...and I am having some anxiety or maybe buyer's remorse after living with it for a couple of months. I just don't feel like this R1T is going to go the distance for me in terms of build quality and service response. I like to think I can use a vehicle for 10 years. This feels a lot more like an iPhone with tires... I think a lease for me might have been a better choice so at least I could feel like I could opt out at the end of the term.

The concept and package are great, but the manufacturing quality is way off. The panels don't fit or align well. The hood is clearly out of whack as are the door shut lines. Also the hydro-forming and seams are finished with adhesive, and some of the manufacturing steps show hastily made joints and process steps that you don't see in newer cars from companies who have been doing this for a long time. The body feels like a 1970's era GM product - bolted and glued together without much sophistication.

Also (and yes I know I clicked <accept> on this at the beginning) I live 4 hours from the nearest service center... so any little issues are virtually impossible to address. So far I have a bed light out, and the front parking sensors completely freak out when it rains, which means I have the "clean the sensors" nag flashing at me every 5 seconds when it rains. None of these issues have even been responded to via the service app.

Also for the money how come I can't get a spare and a jack? I can't even order one.

None of these are actual deal breakers... but I don't have a glowing sense of confidence in Rivian right now. I didn't even get into the sales experience, which was really sub-par. I keep telling myself to just get over it since the car does work, performs well except for the tiny items above... but I do feel they have a perception problem they need to address.

Caveat Emptor.

All I can tell you is that I have owned my R1T for 26 months now and have 30,000 miles on it. I’ve taken it from Virginia to NH and the Adirondacks, Florida and Texas. I’ve been camping with it and off roading with it.
I’m at about 30,000 miles with the original 20 inch tires. My dog loves the back seat. I’ve towed my friends RV to a vermont from Virginia. The towing experience was exceptional and I did not kind the extra charging stops.
I’ve hauled furniture and gravel in the back.
I’ve best younger guys off the start in the muscle cars they were driving and for the times I am not taking it road tripping or camping, I wake up every morning with more than enough range for days.

I’ve some minor service issues but but nothing that has been all that terrible for having bought a launch edition.

I have genuinely just enjoyed this truck and all the extra utility it gives me for the things I like to do. I can not complain in the slightest.

Learning how to charge on road trips is an actual skill, but rig the options we have now that include superchargers… it’s truly just a little extra planning and I get all that time back and more never having to stop at a gas station anymore in my daily life. Oh, and I likely save a couple thousand a year compared to purchasing gas.

Although I know some have had experiences that were negative with service, for me, it has been as good or better as my experience with Audi and their service. (I am older and think most service experiences with dealers are pretty less user friendly than they used to be)

Though maybe not for everyone, ai have had a great experience and loved the versatility and utility of this truck. Should you test drive one? Of course you should. Moreso though, if you want a vehicle that has true usefulness and can make life outdoors easier and more enjoyable… I can’t think of another truck I would have.

Be wary of where your service center is located and how long it can take for repairs. Also look to see where certified repair shops are located.

so i did get to testdrive the highest mileage one of the three. sorry i am on a buisness trip and have not been able to update yet.

from the aspect of seeing if we like the rivian things were good. though it has lots of computer features(for lack of better term)it wasnt nearly as overwhelming as i was worried. all the features feel like they are in a place that makes sense and i can see myself using them. we both had been saying for years cars should use integrated cameras for a bult in dash cam, gear guard fits. the one and only feature i had see on a tesla that i would actually like was pet mode. kinda liked that spotify and tidal are built in. felt less like an iphone and more like an nice android. power made my ram and the durango look like a little bitch. felt like taking off in a jet, and it just keeps pulling. besides accessing the seat controls, it is big people friendly, was worried about it feeling like a jeep. liked that kneel mode negated need for side steps, hate that those are the lowest point on my ram. lots of storage, but was surprised by no glove box. did not like the panoramic sunroof, but see there is an easy cheap mod.

"Why didnt you buy it?" dealer was in a rough area, didnt get much of a testdrive due to bad traffic and sales guy was kinda a dick about us only driving one until we were serious about spending money. testdriving the highest mileage one did give us a feel of the units character overtime. and this one had plenty of character. scratches, scrapes, dents, outside was filthy. 44k miles and asking was 55k. fair price to me at that mileage would be closer to 50k for a clean one. had a bad screech from the rear while driving. park sensors did not work. doors, gear tunnel, frunk, tailgate would not close enough to show closed on the screen, but were clearly closed on outside. could not get the spare tire area to open at all. had to slam everything multiple times. passenger mirror would not adjust far enough out. it was parked where i couldnt see passenger side on approach, and when i did get to inspect the right side the door was caved in and the mirror was nearly ripped off.

I could have lived with most of this at a price point 15-20k lower, many of these issues would be resolved with a thorough detail, lube, and paint correction. the door would probably need to be replaced to be right but i could get it usable with diy pdr. I would be fine with treating it like a truck for 35k. 55k and it having these issues that you are willing to let the customer see and act like they werent there/you just noticed them is just a middle finger to me as far as im concerned. especially with the test drive scheduled in advance. felt like bait and switch.

the plan ahead: we want to test drive a new dual large after the new year. cant sooner as its peak season at work and the mail has got to move. next will be our personal debate on used r1t quad launch vs new r1t dual. i will keep an eye on the local market and if something decent shows up my decision may be made for me. I am a bit upside down on the ram yet due to a 2021 purchase time. may try to refinance so i can make double payments, but will have to run numbers. we do both agree if we were to go with an suv it will be later when the durango gets replaced and will likely be going r2 then.

You guys are good and I appreciate you letting me brain storm this out here, and giving helpful input. thank you

Greetings Rivian folks! I finally pulled the trigger on a 2025 R1S Dual Max. I’ve been lusting over this car for over a year now, so excited! Delivery day is set for Dec 9th. Now I just need to steel myself for the inevitable gut punch of selling my model Y for a massive loss (bought it just before the big price drop in early 2023).

I’m happy to have found this community, and looking forward to chatting with you all as an owner soon!

Thanks! I went for Limestone with the dark package since it had the best combo of options I was interested in available in inventory. Super stoked!

I quite like the model Y, but need a real 7 seater and better ground clearance.

Joined the Rivian family! Got my 2025 R1S performance dual max a few days ago. Loving it so far!

I bought it used. Any tips on what I might have missed or may not know about? First time rivian and EV owner.

Hi all, just bought a used 2023 R1T with 19k miles, 2nd owner. Forest green/Forest Edge, Quad motors, Large battery, all-terrain tires. not sure of other options, would like to figure out way to get original window sticker. First EV, I‘ve been a long time sports car guy but wanted more room without giving up power and handling. Drove a bunch of high-performance ICE SUVs, but the R1T was in another realm from acceleration standpoint and general driving feel - like a spaceship vs. the others. Totally smitten. Luckily, Rivian just opened a new service center near me in Malvern PA (suburban Philly). Made an appointment to fix noisy steering wheel rake adjustment feature.

WooHoo!!! It was an exciting and scary day last Friday. I found a used 22 R1T Adventure Quad Large battery with 7900mi and bought it. This is my first foray into EV. I have been following Telsa since its inception in ~08' but knew that I could never afford it. Then in recent years, I drove a Y and decided I didn't really like the build and the overall feel of the vehicle plus I didn't want to support Tesla anymore. My daughter showed me a video about Rivian back in 21' when they were first starting out. I have been following ever since (and saving money) and I finally pulled the trigger.

I am soo excited but now I am trying to figure out charging and all of the ins and outs and this new world.
