I just find it hard to believe that as someone who has worn glasses almost his entire driving history, and as someone with eyes so light sensitive it makes his optometrists apologize... I've never ever had this issue. I've never needed to swap my glasses so many times that it mattered where I stored them. Blows my mind, but hey, I guess I'm just doing it wrong ?

For those of you that simply cannot live without being able to change your eyewear every 5 minutes and find the current storage options insufficient, I would recommend something that sticks to the windshield or console light a phone holder. It would be cool to have some statistics to see how many people fall on which side of the line - I just can't imagine this complaint being so common place that Rivian should have engineered for it.

Just wait, till you put some miles on. I'm not changing it multiple times, but its certainly not practical to bend down to get sunglasses while driving. Would of been ideal if they had a overhead "bin" for eyewear as it is for other vehicles. It's a small thing to nitpick, and the truck is really fun to drive. But it's certainly an oversight I'm sure they'll make changes on the next versions. I think they could easily create a cubby under the center vents. Accessibility would be much better. Besides a bag the large tray underneath (between the seats) is pretty useless for small things such as eyewear.

timesink,

I also forgot to mention the lack of customizing your home icons. I always want quick access to the cameras. Maybe some smart feature to recognize we're in a parking lot and already activate?

All this griping about a cubby for sunglasses sure is amusing. Just slide them up on top your head. I've never once put my sunglasses somewhere during the day. At night or otherwise when not wearing them, I put them in their sleeve/case and drop them in the center console. Not a big deal. None of my cars have ever wasted space with a dedicated glasses cubby.

Doesn't work so well for those of us with prescription lenses and have to switch between 2 pair of glasses.

Someone lists some gripes they have about the R1T ownership experience, and say they wish there was a spot for sunglasses, and people are jumping on his one (of several) comment. Just because its a gripe to him doesn't mean it needs to be a gripe to you.

If you wonder why some people who got delivery and don't share information, it's stuff like this.

Fair...though I've used both transitions lenses and/or magnetic clips ons in that case.

So I don't have my truck till tomorrow but is it possible to switch out the grab handle on the driver's side for a sunglass holder? I've done it on both VWs I've owned and the Volvo I'm currently selling

not a fan of either.

personally, I keep one pair of glasses in a hard-shell case which fits nicely in the door pocket of my Volvo. I suspect this will also work with the Rivian given the expanding door pocket.

Likely repairable:
  • weather stripping issue on passenger door -> lots of wind noise at freeway speeds (we'll be trying to get them to fix this)
Software stuff that I'm sure will get better over time:
  • nav... it's better than any legacy OEM but try not to trip over that bar...
    • No lane guidance, crappy/misleading/wrong directions in complex urban interchanges (think early apple maps quality stuff)
    • Traffic avoidance is ok but nowhere near comparable to google/apple/waze, seems like their data source may not have enough drivers on less-traveled routes to have good data for them
    • No way points or stops, so no way to use it to plan an out-and-back trip (I might have enough charge to get there, but what if there is no charger wherever there is?)
    • It's not using a particularly complete database of chargers (lots more in any given area if you use browse with plugshare)
    • Too many of the controls are centered or even on the right side of the display which is a long reach for the driver
    • While I dislike the way the route ends on most phone apps once you've "arrived" (because I'm frequently driving by looking for parking and if that pin disappears, I sometimes lose a sense of how far I've wandered in my search), the Rivian nav seems to suffer from the opposite problem. A number of times I've been like "why can't I pick a destination?" only to realize I needed to tap the blue "end route" button first.
    • I will say it's snappy, responsive, and pretty.
I had the wind noise issue on my Model 3. Took it in to be serviced 3 times before it was "fixed". Eventually traded in the Model 3 for a Model Y. The Y was a lot quieter, so I don't think it was every truely fixed. Hopefully your R1T being fixed is a lot smoother.

Navigation on Sync 4a for Mustang and eventually Lightning is actually pretty decent. Its probably better than Rivian right now. Of course they also support Android Auto/Carplay, so I'd say Rivian still has some catching up to do in that department.

doesn't have spray-to-clean for the rear camera (also an ID.4 feature I love)
ummm how are you activating that? Asking for a friend...
when going into R, backup camera pops up on screen. In the ID.4, it'll remain in camera mode while moving forward at low speeds. The R1T immediately reverts out of camera mode when leaving reverse. Keeping the cameras on (and auto-switching to the front-facing view when going to D) until hitting 3 or 5mph would be really useful for parking in tight spaces. Also, if the parking proximity sensors are triggered while in D, automatically launching the camera view would be nice too
The quirks of personal preferences. I get pretty impatient with how long the ID.4 holds the rear view camera and almost always exit out of it manually.

Indeed. My MINI leaves the camera up for awhile too, but you can program how far you need to drive before it turns off using and OBD adapter and an app.

The wiper stalk can spay the rear window when pushed all the way in toward the dash -- it also sprays the camera at the same time.

Agree that the camera stays on too long in the ID.4. I'm also constantly dismissing it manually. But compare to the R1T where the camera disappears immediately, and I find myself saying "hey, I was using that!" as I inch forward into a tight spot.

There's a compromise in here between the two extremes: if I've gone over like 3mph or maybe just after 6ft it should disappear.

Huh. I never noticed that it cleans the camera at the same time. Neat.

Put them on the cell phone charger then, if you're changing them that frequently. Or just wear them the whole time. It's not like you can't see on a cloudy day with sunglasses on, I know for a fact since cloudy days are the days I actually do wear sunglasses (the diffused light causes me migraines).
I keep sunglasses in my car all the time. Let the man bitch, that’s what this thread is for!

That’s the #1 place I lose glasses. Me: “where are my glasses?”. My kids: “On your head!”. ?
