I am under the impression that Rivian will be acting as a non-captive agent. So they may be quoting policies from a number of underwriters.Looks like Nationwide may be insuring the Rivians

I live in No. California. Rivian gave me the following quote that included discounts for multiple cars AND home insurance --i.e., Nationwide for home and auto. Not sure is this will be of interest to anyone, but I got a quote and spoke at length to an insurance advisor. She was super helpful and answered my questions. However, it seems that they were not competitive on anything they would have quoted me with a bundle (I sent them the decs of my other cars, motorcycle, house and boat). And the Rivian was over DOUBLE of what Geico quoted me (She did say that if they have been competitive that there would be a 20% multi-vehicle discount). Their 6 month premium for me (mid-40's no tickets or accidents) was about $1350! I thought it was annual at first! So that would be $2700 per year. I ran the same number through Geico and it was about $570 for a 6 month premium, so $1140 / year. That is a HUGE difference, so please make sure you get a few quotes.
And lastly, they spoke about the off-road aspects and that tents will be covered, etc. She said anything attached is covered. So I said, wait, hold up a sec. If I was to purchase (if it came out) the Loki basecamp that is going to be over $100k, that would be covered also? She corrected herself and told me that ONLY what is on the build sheet is covered. That being said, they are correct that a rooftop tent will be covered, but only if it is the RTT that you purchased new with your Rivian. So, not Roofnest, James Baroud, Tepui, etc. Just the 3 person tent that is listed as an accessory.
Interestingly, the 5 year old Prius with 60k miles costs more to insure than the R1T.I live in No. California. Rivian gave me the following quote that included discounts for multiple cars AND home insurance --i.e., Nationwide for home and auto.

Interesting, I’m in SoCal, they would not even give me a quote. They said they could not be competitive with my current policy (2 vehicles, 2 houses, and an umbrella).I live in No. California. Same for me. Similar coverage needs.Interesting, I’m in SoCal, they would not even give me a quote. They said they could not be competitive with my current policy (2 vehicles, 2 houses, and an umbrella).
I'm surprised you need umbrella insurance in southern cal. Can't imagine your umbrellas get much useInteresting, I’m in SoCal, they would not even give me a quote. They said they could not be competitive with my current policy (2 vehicles, 2 houses, and an umbrella).
yeah, that's what stuck out to me as well.Interestingly, the 5 year old Prius with 60k miles costs more to insure than the R1T.
Possible that the primary driver on each car is different. My wife drives a smaller and older vehicle than I do, but her’s is more expensive than mine to insure. They are also part of the same plan with home and umbrella.Interestingly, the 5 year old Prius with 60k miles costs more to insure than the R1T.
i believe its usually quoted at 6 months. Is that for one year or 6 months?
Edit: Thank you for sharing the full details of your policy. Most people leave out the deductible cost and also what their liability limits are, which makes comparing policies nearly useless. This data is really helpful.
I contacted them and they called back. Here is the email, it can be found on the insurance link at the bottom of the Rivian site. How are you all getting quotes? Nobody from the insurance group at Rivian has reached out to me as of yet.
