I love my Gen 1 R1T - 573rd off the production line, BUT I'm starting to have buyers remorse as our truck is currently in El Segundo SC for the 3rd time this past year and my comprehensive warranty coverage is only valid for the remainder of this year, 2026. This time the air suspension in the front got stuck in its lowest position, resting on the bumper stops, rendering the truck inoperable and unsafe to drive. We had to call roadside and have it towed on a flatbed to the SC. The fail started immediately after exiting service mode. The truck had been sitting idle in our driveway for several days. I had put it into service mode and pulled up the RIDE menu to check the 12v battery health. 12v looked good. We have only 17k miles on the truck. Upon exiting service mode, the front end lowered all the way down and could not lift itself back up again. We tried going a short distance, as recommended after the truck has been placed in 'kneel' mode, but that did nothing. When waking the truck from sleep, the air compressors work overtime to inflate the front until they shutdown with a 'suspension needs to cool' error message on the small screen. I know that both the towing and the repair should be covered under the comprehensive part of our warranty. However, when I pointed out that one of the inner wheel well covers had been jarred out of position, the tech receiving the truck told me that would fall under the 'adjustment warranty coverage', which had long since expired. Seems like that is a direct result of the front end being grounded and should therefore be included under the comprehensive coverage. Anyway,... has anyone else heard of this front end suspension fail? We were already aware of the top 3 Gen1 quirks; (1) 12v battery, (2) tonneau cover, (3) front suspension rocker arms, but this is the first we've come across this air suspension fail, resulting in the front end of the truck being grounded.

You need to inform them the adjustment warranty ends with the basic 5/60 period on yours. The shortened adjustment warranty doesn’t apply to any 2022 models.

Hmm. This isn't true on my '22. I had Rivian send me my warranty status a few weeks ago, and the fit/finish warranty expired at 1 year.

  • Drivetrain Limited Warranty: active through July 30, 2030 or 175,000 miles, whichever comes first
  • High Voltage Battery Pack Limited Warranty: active through July 30, 2030 or 175,000 miles, whichever comes first
  • Occupant Active Restraint System Limited Warranty: active through July 30, 2030 or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first
  • Corrosion (Perforation Only) Limited Warranty: active through July 30, 2030 with unlimited miles
Expired warranties

  • Adjustment Limited Warranty: expired July 30, 2023
  • 12 Volt Battery Limited Warranty: expired July 30, 2025

There’s a link to the original warranty terms. And it shows that those terms changed June 2023. So if you bought your R1 before then, the limit of 1 year on the adjustment warranty doesn’t apply to you. They can’t change your warranty after you bought your car, even if their system says that it’s expired.
If you read the verbiage in the pdf for the 5yr/60k Comprehensive Warranty it states it covers adjustments.

They are incorrect then. Here is the warranty guide based on the effective date. Choose the one that matches your build date. I'm guessing that it is June 2022 and that the guide has no specific adjustment period.

Very interesting. So by that logic, my fit/adjustment warranty should be forever? I do have a few trim fit issues on the body that I may have them look at next visit then :)

Although since it doesn't bother me too much, I'll probably leave it be since I just know when they fix that, something else will go wrong immediately after....

But interested to see what the OP is able to get from them since we fall within the same timeframe for warranty.....

Adjustments are listed as part of the 5yr/60k mile Comprehensive warranty before the change in June 2023

Ah! So I need to let the Rivian person that sent me that email know they were incorrect. Thanks!
Based on your comment, diplomacy is important as well as what the warranty says. I'm not sure I'd approach the "Rivian person" with "you were incorrect", but perhaps, suggest that they may not be aware of the earlier warranty terms that weren't changed by the Rivian change at a later date and allow them to explain their view point? I think if you present the information in an informative way and ask for their input, rather than a confrontational approach, you'll get a lot more cooperation.

Yep - I would be very polite about it. Just an honest mistake.

My other thought is, and I didn't read the whole document (I'll have to load it to AI and ask it to find the answer), perhaps that part of the warranty doesn't extend to a second buyer since I purchased it used.

In the US, the OEM warranty terms apply to all owners unless specifically stated otherwise, and that has limitations.

Perhaps a silly question and obvious to others, but what does Rivian consider the "effective date"? I assume it is the delivery date i.e. when you take ownership? That would make the most sense. However, best not to assume (I'm sure you all know the saying......).

“The New Vehicle Limited Warranty starts on the day that your Rivian was originally delivered or put into service.”
