  1. Home Wall Charger

In a lot of EVSE chargers there are switches you can set to control the rate of charge so you don't exceed the capacity of the circuit or your panel's capacity. With the Emporia software controls the rate of charge. Think of it as software switches. There are still communications between the...
  2. Home Wall Charger

I guess you haven't looked at the Emporia chargers. They aren't a "dumb" device and they can throttle the rate of charge. Go have a look at their products.
  3. Home Wall Charger

With a charger such as the Emporia you can throttle the charge rate from the supply side regardless of what the vehicle's max rate is set to. If you pair their charger with their Vue, you can have the charger throttle the charge rate based on the loads in your panel so you don't exceed the...
  4. A very unpleasant surprise: dent in tailgate

Do planes fly over your house? Maybe the guy who empties the sewage holding tank on planes (have you seen blue ice?) didn't get the valve closed and your truck took a direct hit. 🤣 The ice would melt so there wouldn't be any evidence around your truck. I remember a news report of blue ice...
  5. 20in wheel worse range even with all season tires?

Check out Rivian Roamer and Rivian Trackr for wheel tire comparisons on actual vehicles in the real world.
  6. Weird Location Issue in App and TezLab

This is a bug since the buggy update that was "patched" with the last update. I've had this since the update, it may go away for a bit but then gets stuck at some random location where the truck stopped for a bit. I happened to run across a couple of the Rivian software engineers in...
  7. 12 Volt Demons Caught Up With The Count

I doubt the batteries are getting hot from your charger. 12 watts isn't a lot of power for the size of the 12 volt batteries. Your charger is probably at its max current rating and at that level some warming is to be expected. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  8. 12 Volt Demons Caught Up With The Count

Except the lead smelting to reform the lead plates for new batteries releases tons of lead into the air and pollutes the surrounding environment. Most lead acid recycling has moved overseas because worker and environmental protections are nonexistent. Just because you can repurpose something...
  9. R2 Color Ranking

Ran across a couple of Rivian engineers driving an R2 to Palo Alto today. Launch green looks good! They let me sit in it and play around and showed me around the vehicle. I found it to be very comfortable. I asked them about cruise control "resume" function; they weren't sure how the R2...
  10. Front Sensors Off with 2026.15.01 update

Don't forget, Rivian suggests that if you do the hard rest to wait at least a hour before trying another hard reset. While a hard reset is for end users use it with a full understanding of how to use it. Read the Owner's Manual for more info.
  11. Unplugging for Thunderstorms & Lightning?

Not a bad habit to unplug with storms predicted. I was at the Vegas airport and got delayed several hours because the control tower got hit by lightning. I had a coworker who lost all their appliances from a nearby strike. While a whole house surge protector does provide some protection...
  12. No Internet Connection after 2026.15.0 Update

Last night I had to do a hard reset of my R1T to get it to connect to my wireless at home. Location is also screwed up and the app keeps telling me I need to share location although it is turned on in the vehicle. I think the patch that is supposed to fix all this hasn't been uploaded to me...
  13. 13 Rivian R2 (out of 28 total) spotted in Park City, UT. Event Coverage Coming June 9

The R2s have invisible cloak mode turned on until the 9th.......
  14. 13 Rivian R2 (out of 28 total) spotted in Park City, UT. Event Coverage Coming June 9

I was told by the Boise SC that SLC does already have demo R2s. Boise didn't have one last week when I was there for an alignment.
  15. Low Mileage Pre-Owned direct from Rivan

The demo vehicles should come with a warranty as if new, if you buy direct from Rivian. Soooo, unless you plan on keeping the vehicle long term, your warranty will be covering the HV battery for a long time. The loss of range over time is a lot of hype and has been shown to be a lot less than...
  16. Future of R1S?

No there aren't any announcements that production of the R1 platform was being phased out. Considering they haven't officially started shipping the R2, if they discontinued the R1 they wouldn't have anything but the EDV to sell at least for another week or two. Looking at the Rivian website I...
  17. Service 12V battery system immediately error. - Replaced faulty 12V sensor.

It sounds like Rivian did the right thing. Intermittent problems such as a loose wire can be very difficult to diagnose. I always use the analogy of going to the doctor and not having the symptoms once you get there; how is the doctor supposed to diagnose your illness if you don't have any...
  18. Front End Air Suspension FAIL

Based on your comment, diplomacy is important as well as what the warranty says. I'm not sure I'd approach the "Rivian person" with "you were incorrect", but perhaps, suggest that they may not be aware of the earlier warranty terms that weren't changed by the Rivian change at a later date and...
  19. Range question for gen 1 2024 R1S quad

Think of the range estimate in an EV like the Distance To Empty gauge in an ICE vehicle. Just like an ICE vehicle, if you are a lead foot on the go-pedal you won't get the estimated distance. Just like an ICE vehicle if you've been doing mostly highway miles in eco engine mode and you start...
  20. Mystery Bumper Wires!

Most jump packs will work as long as they have the ability to put out 30 amps. Your lead acid cells may be listed for 12v but when fully charged they are closer to 14v. A lithium jumper pack should work fine.
