Most things in my life are function over form but not cars. The look and appeal of a vehicle is what drives me to purchase. Yes it needs the other functional things but if it is not appealing I won't touch it. considering what Ferrari just unveiled I am in the 'Not touch it' camp. It just looks ridiculous like a Cybertruck. What were they thinking?

When I think about the buyer for something like this they have the money to easily get a Porsche Cayenne EV which is a much better looking vehicle and still have plenty of money leftover to buy a R1S. I am sure you could throw the Lucid Gravity, MVB EQS-SUV, or a few others but this Luce is just odd.

If you took the badge off of this, I would guess about 50 car manufacturers before I got to Ferrari. Most Ferraris look like Ferraris. This looks like it could just as well be a Kia or BYD.

It's a Ferrari. It will still sell despite controversy. This one, to the well-heeled tech savvy boys/girls who want it as a status symbol and fashion accessory. The well-heeled Ferrari diehards will not buy it. They looked down on it like the Mondial and 400 was once treated (but enjoyed appreciate much later, in recent years).

For everyone else... "Anyways..."

I agree with the second part of your argument. My guess is that Ferrari types want the exhaust roar, and even though this has some kind of sound-producing transducer in the vehicle, it's not the same kind of visceral noise as from a high-revving V-12 or even a V-8. I'm not sure there are enough well-heeled status symbol seekers enthusiastic enough about EV's to fork out $500k or whatever the Luce is going to sell for, and will not be surprised to see the model die an early death.

To me it looks like a. Jaguar ipace. Just nothing about it says Ferrari, at least the Mazda looking suv was interesting to look at, this is just a boring tech appliance look. A Ferrari needs to be flashy, not practical.

To be fair... For brands whose primary business (and history) is in sleek and low-slung GT/sports cars, there isn't much they can do when attempting to make SUVs that still adhere to their brand's design/traditions. Jaguar, Porsche, Lamborghini... it's the same primary brand defining design characteristics on a higher riding platform. For the car designers, these are probably the least enjoyable, most high-pressured and least appreciated assignments.

The intro video for Luce reminded me of intro video for Mac Book Pro.

I think the best reaction so far from the auto industry is:
"Luca Cordero di Montezemolo gave a harsh verdict: “If I were to say what I really think, it would be unpleasant, so I prefer not to comment. I just hope someone removes the Prancing Horse from that car. We risk destroying a legend, which saddens me greatly. At least this is a car the Chinese won’t copy.”"

My first reaction was that Ferrari built 20 Nissan Leaf into a single vehicle.

I mean, it was designed by Jony Ive. The footprint of it looks like the Apple Magic Mouse to me.

(Yeah, it made the car too big when flipping it over.)

Haha. I don't hate it honestly. I like different. I do think it will grow on people over time but likely won't last more than one production year.

Ferrari did go off the rails a bit though, I can agree to that on the design. This does not scream Ferrari (or even whisper it). I actually take more issue with the interior than the exterior. It just looks plain.

My guess? We likely won't see another EV supercar for at least decade now. This is one way to depress that market. Shame. I would have hoped if anyone could have nailed the concept was Ferrari. I wonder if they just wanted it DOA so they can go back to hybrids and V8s.

Wrote this up because I thought how big of a blunder this whole exercise was and how Rivian could make something equivalently better at a fraction of the cost.

Right. There are outliers of course. But majority of Supercar buyers don't buy them to be plain or understated. This car, like any other more "practical" models from exotic brands are meant to: 1. Diversify their business—offer a mild everyday-use option to existing customers, so they don't buy a car from another brand. 2. To make headlines and remain relevant.

Nothing new. Ferrari faced same criticism when it rolled out the 4-seat 400. And again with the FF.
