It certainly is normal. There's been so much talk about that for four years on this forum and others. Many or even most were bricking the first year esp. And the service in the DC area is abysmal. That's a top reason I switched to another brand. My warranty would have ended in another year and there's no way I'd ever go without a warranty with a Rivian.
Service being abysmal doesn't surprise me. I never criticized you moving to another brand. In fact, I noted that I hope your experience with the EX90 is great. Hopefully you joined the EX90 club after they addressed the major issues they were experiencing. If I had owned an R1 that left me stranded more than once, I would have bailed pretty quickly.

That being said, R1 vehicles "bricking" and being undriveable has never been a "normal" experience. Of the more than 1,000 local club members, I don't recall any having been unable to drive and requiring a tow being of software, with the exception of maybe one or two for the software release that caused some 12v to drain at one point. Even to that, the outcome of the 12v dying still wasn't a "normal" experience. People in the club (including myself) have had to get towed because of hardware failures, but not a software bug. I'm not discounting your experiences, but they don't make a bricked vehicle "normal." I would be really curious to understand what was the root cause of your vehicle bricking and becoming undriveable each time.

Saying "many or most" would imply that of the close group of friends that I have who owned Rivians in the first year of release, several of them would have had their vehicle brick. None did. I've had an R1 since... June of 2022(?) and my spouse has had one since May of 2023. Neither of us have had our any of ours "brick" due to software. I got stranded once because the inverter for my rear motor blew. I'm looking at a couple of longstanding chats that total more than 20 owners who have all had R1Ts since 2022, and none of them had software brick their vehicle. They have had plenty of other issues, but not software driven "bricks".

From my understanding…Ford isn’t bailing on the EV, they are working on adapting a gas inverter/generator, much like the Scout design, to extend range.

The new media narrative wants you to believe EV’s have failed so that’s the way they are going. After all Elon bad so we need to hurt Tesla (rolling eyes).
Yea it's still an EV but 60 mile range and then the generator kicks in. Same basic platform so it's not all wasted. I hope Ford does well with it.

I know a few people going back to gas so nothing's perfect.

I hope I know what bricked means because my truck had to be towed to the service place about once per year. That never happened to my RAM 1500 in 7 years or any of my Range Rovers or Mercedes or Tesla or any other car. Maybe my old Land Rover Defender, that needed a new transmission.

Again, my experiences, ppl need to be more respectful towards others, we have a right to our own opinions, and have a right to express our experiences. The bullying and arguing on this forum is so disappointing.
If true, extrapolating your experience to say that 1st Gen Rivians have have had a high frequency of "bricking" is just not true.

*Edit - Note I did not argue with your experience.

It's funny you said all of this because I never felt comfortable on this forum. If I said something positive about Rivian trolls would bash and argue with me. If I said something negative or a problem trolls would bash and argue with me. And I always had the feeling the majority of users, or at least the most active, were shorting the stock and trying to pump it one way or another. I have a really hard time believing Rivian owners are such a holes, I'm hoping they're just non owning trolls, but who knows.
Interesting that you have had issues with both fans and critics of Rivian. You seemingly are unable to get on with many people. I also don’t believe most on here are shorting the stock.

That was a nice thoughtful response, thanks for taking the time to write it. Rivian service never answered questions like why something happened or even what they repaired. The 800 number people had a difficult time contacting the Gathersburg MD service manager, and they would never return my call.

Reminded me that I had a 12v battery brick thing too the first year : )

I still loved the truck and would talk very positively if someone asked me about my experience. Although for any EV I'd make sure they are aware of the risks.

It's the nature of this board. Everyone seems to argue and attack. Weird. I would think there would be a more welcoming community. If I were a moderator I'd not ppl who turn others away.

Several people contributed to what I view as the unconstructive recent nature of this thread.

To me, the emotional escalation seems primarily to have come from @Christopher1000, who has in the past not seemed to be a particularly negative influence.

Everyone, and especially @Christopher1000, might benefit from a deep breath and maybe taking a brief break. Nothing here is worth the namecalling and general unpleasantness that's been expended on this thread today.

Best wishes!

Always the best way to calm something down is to call out someone in particular and try to humiliate them. Good contribution to the forum!

He said take a deep breathe, not add to your block list. If so may people annoy you and you don’t own a Rivian then it is a reasonable question to ask why you are here.
