I was charged $1800 for destination fees. The truck was delivered to my home from El Segundo SC California. I didn't ask for the tow but when offered I gladly accepted.

Looking back... $1800 it's the highest I've ever paid for destination charges on any new vehicle. Does this include the flat bed costs? Is this a black box line item?

It is not calculated it is a fixed price. Everyone pays the same thing, they increased it awhile back. I picked up at the factory and still paid the 1800.

Flat fee for everyone. For comparison, my Lightning was $1695 last year and is $1895 this year.

These are on the higher end though:

Yep, a kick in the teeth when you have to drive 200+ miles to pick it up.

Especially when that drive is for factory pickup. You just paid them $1800 to drive it 100 yards from the end of the production line to the parking lot out back.

Yeah they need to make money and cover their costs. It sucks and it's a high fee but anyone pre March is also getting a hell of a discount.

Here's a back story on the cost and increases.

It's required to be disclosed on the sale sheet by law. Manufacturers have chosen to normalize the fee so that everyone pays the same fee, but everyone paying the same fee is not law from what I have read. For example, If you live close to the factory, you are subsidizing delivery costs for a person that lives in Alaska who should be paying $3500 actual shipping costs.

The biggest bunch of BS is that the destination charge is taxable.
My destination charge isn’t taxed on my purchase summary. It was added after the taxes were calculated, along with the doc fee ($225) and the title and registration fees ($37.20).

The article someone posted explaining the destination fees says it is, that’s where I got it from. Idk if that’s true or not though.

It might depend on the locality. In WA, if the item is taxable, and the seller is not responsible for the delivery charge, then the destination charge is taxed.

Agree, I'm pretty sure it's based on state tax laws. There is no Federal sales tax ..... yet?

There no making sense of it....

Example destination charges on 2023 Kia window stickers:
  1. Kia Rio (sub compact) ships from Mexico is $1,095
  2. Kia Telluride (mid SUV) ships from USA is $1,335
  3. Kia Carnival (minivan) ships from Korea is $1,335
