To whoever said screws vs welds doesn’t matter may not have spent much time off-road or on washboard roads.
The vibrations will loosen those screws pretty quickly.
Oh please. I do MIL-STD-810G testing across the road courses at Yuma Proving Grounds and Aberdeen that shock and vibe the ever loving crap out of everything far beyond what any person could actually do. Think 8" washboard at 45mph continuously for 1,000 miles type stuff. Lots and lots of assemblies full of bolts pass with flying colors, and welds crack or snap. The reverse happens also, but either way there isn't much of a difference in success rates between the two camps of bolt vs weld. A properly designed system will stand up to shock and vibe. Personally, I prefer bolts to welds since I can easily and cleanly fix a bolt problem, whereas fixing welds tends to be messier. A bolt will only come loose / fail if it wasn't torqued properly into the system, the same way a weld will only go if it wasn't properly applied, or poor design practices.

It’s good to hear from specialists. Thank you ?

I appreciate all of your comments. I'm currently on vacation with limited access. Watch for more information in September.
Any update here on how this is holding up? Plans to bring it to market?

R1T Max Pack Pre-Order
Great work, this looks fantastic! I'm looking at upgrading my RTT solution before I receive the Max Pack and have been waiting for a roof height roof rack solution. With an option like this, I can get a full size iKamper Skycamp and have zero issues. Please post sales info when you are ready, I will purchase one from you.

I made an account specifically to say this.

This thread and product look dead. Shame as this has significant potential. If anyone finds or makes a similar solution let us know.

Watch Overland Ruff Rax. They built one for the Optima Rivian build along with a roof rack which I have my eye on..

Too bad this sort of rack arrangement seemingly wasn’t a design consideration when designing the bed rails/attachment points.
This. No boats, no overland, no snow?

In those meetings, they got so mesmerized by their fancy, shmancy crossbars and mounting system, that they completely forgot they were building an “adventure vehicle”. People like to do things with their ultra capable adventure vehicles - things that require an extra level of utility and easy customization. Fortunately, it does look like a few companies are starting to find work arounds for taller bed racks and even a roof rack for the R1S. Unfortunately, the Overland Ruff Rax products are insanely expensive.

Retired from construction.
I like the design. What would be the load capacity? The Rivian rack load is disappointing low.
Great design I would be interested.

I apologize for not keeping up by posting. My concern is how many of these could I sell. It's expensive and time consuming to do this right and only sell 100 or so. I also know that the cost will contribute to the number I can sell and to do this well they could be 3 to 4K. Another concern is just how many of these R1T's are they going to sell in the next year and will Rivian weather these next couple years? I welcome feedback and didn't mean to be too philosophical.
