The length of a phone call or email chain with the guide is all entirely dependent on how much info Rivian releases before guide contact begins. If they publish a flood of info that I can use to answer my own questions ahead of time, perfect. I think it'd be crazy not to have the data already out there for customers before or at the start of contact. Otherwise the guides will be answering many of the same standard questions over and over again.

I certainly would prefer to see and test drive the R1T prior to purchase, however, it is not a requirement for me. I have been on the waiting list since Christmas 2018 and two Christmases have gone by since then (I must be on Santa’s naughty list). Plus waiting for the road show to come to Cleveland would most likely delay my delivery even further.

Buying sight unseen is not that big of a risk to me for several reasons:
1) I ordered Midnight so I know what it’s going to look like...Awesome! No risk that the shade is not quite right like if it were Launch Green. I have owned 10 vehicles over the years and they were all black and looked fabulous regardless of manufacturer so I know the Rivian will look perfect to me.
2) I have always test drove those vehicles but my test drives were super short, maybe 15 minutes tops. I have 7 days and 1000 miles to test drive my Rivian. No risk.
3) Heck, if I hate it I can easily sell the Rivian to someone that doesn’t want to wait over a year.

I have little doubt that I will dislike my Rivian, but in case I do if anyone is interested in a Midnight Launch Edition R1T, with Midnight interior and 22” wheels I’ll sell it to you at my cost plus a bottle of good bourbon.
You touch on something that I have thought about in regard to test drives. It won't be as useful an experience to me if they hold it in a downtown setting vs. having it where you can put it through its paces in an "adventure" setting which is the route I am hoping they go.

I wonder if you are allowed to wait with your LE reservation when a guide contacts you and, if you can, how many people will move ahead of those that want to wait to see the Rivian in person. I would assume waiting a bit is an option. I know there are enough people who would gladly jump in sight unseen.

That would be my first sentence but my second and last sentence would be which door should I enter at the Normal plant to pick up my LE R1T?
Assumptive close, I like it!

I doubt if from this date forward anyone will be willing to wait three years for a startup to deliver an EV to them . . . and that means that the 5+ years required for an EV startup to get to market will no longer be available to new entrants.
Excellent point! I hadn't thought of that, and the only opportunity for startups will be in niche/specialized applications or markets where the bigger fish don't care to participate.

If Rivian sends out a media packet (like Ford seems to have done) with a lot more info, including options and accessories it would allow everyone to digest it prior to a guide calling and having to explain everything.

I'm hoping this happens next week. Let Ford have their moment and then get something out to LE holders before the Holiday weekend so they can dig into it over three days.

Or, the first person hosts the call on Teams/Zoom and we do AMA style ?

Someone needs to start a new thread that we all watch. Thread rule is you can only post when you are on the phone with a Guide. That way everyone gets an email alert on first contact.

I also propose excommunication from the forum for all boys/ girls who cry wolf. Sound good admin gods?

That is a great idea. I hope they do that.

Heck, I don't even need a guide or call. Just let me know where to pick it up or ship it to me and we are good (as long as went through quality control well). I'll figure stuff out on my own.

You're entitled to your opinion which has obviously been soured by disappointment. But perhaps if Tesla had put a little more into the Roadster it wouldn't have been such a disaster (and I'm not suggesting they actually had the resources at the time to do anything different). Frankly, I would not be committed to Rivian if they weren't taking their time to do things right. Also keep in mind that Rivian is basically releasing 3 vehicles at once with a level of quality and refinement far beyond what Tesla was ever able to provide with the Roadster (and Tesla's consistency and quality continue to be problems today).
