I don't think they would let you pick up your vehicle from the factory unless you have service centers in your city. That's 1 of 3 factors for them to even start building your vehicle.

I was hoping I could take delivery of the LE R1T at the factory (440 miles south of me) and do a fun shakedown drive home to Northern Michigan, but I agree that probably the factor with the most weight is one's proximity to a service center - especially for the first few thousand vehicles. I am 240 miles from Plymouth MI, and 320 from Chicago, so I imagine that will be well outside an acceptable distance from a service center for early deliveries - regardless of paint color and options. So I continue to wait...

With "Service Centers" being a key point in Rivian's logic for early deliveries, do we have a map somewhere on the forum for best speculation for published service center sites?

I found the Thread about Service Centers but its also about Retail Storefronts and the locations are intermixed without distinction.

That said, I'm really hoping to be reasonably early in deliveries since San Diego, CA distance is short to these identified places
  • Irvine 85 miles
  • Laguna Beach 80 miles
  • Los Angeles 120 miles
  • Venice Beach 130 miles

Easy to understand the their reasoning. Imagine getting your R1T and then having an issue. "Sorry, you'll have to wait 3 months for a service center to be built."

My friend is part of the team that is launching service centers (mobile and actual buildings). He can't tell me anything, but said I will definitely have a center near me. I'm 20 miles from LA.

I'm sure SD will have local service centers.

Quick funny story. This morning, my phone started buzzing. I looked down at my partially-covered screen and what I could see in the display was "ivian"

Needless to say, I got ALL excited. Unfortunately, the call was from a friend of mine..... Vivian. :CWL::CWL:

They’re doing at home service. It’s more where they are locating service techs and how far they will have to drive to get to you. There won’t be any service centers open when deliveries begins. If it’s something major, they’ll bring a flat bed with a loaner and haul, yours away for repairs.

If Rivian's Marketing/Communications team (cough, cough - if they exist) was really savvy they would purposely plan to conduct the first Guide Contacts next week either on Tues (5/18) or Wed. (5/19). Doing so would grab lots of spotlight away from two big BEV reveals next week - Kia's EV6/GT on Tuesday and Ford's 'Lightning' EV truck on Weds. Between the two possibilities, doing it a week from today would be a very shrewd move!

Undoubtedly if the first Guide contacts occur on the same day - ideally early in the morning - of Ford's EV truck reveal it will steal away attention in the EV press, especially in the blogosphere. Of course Ford's event will still get big coverage.

I think it would be sending a powerful message: Rivian is actually delivering EV trucks while Ford is just another OEM promising a new EV truck.

I don’t think guide contacts will steal any attention from other EV news. Guide contacts are only really of interest to people already bought into the vehicle.

I understand that Ohio isn’t known for its adventure like CO, however, I believe it to have a high chance of early deliveries.

Point 1) Ohio has the 4th most Amazon distribution centers and if the comments around service center location being a factor in delivery schedules, they will certainly build some in OH for the Rivian vans.

Point 2) you see in this article that OH is one of the states hiring Field Specialists for the summer tour.

Hoping these points will lead to an early call from my Guide. Fingers crossed.
