Picked my R1T up today, 3/31 at the Richmond VA service center, just squeezing it in for the Q1 push. Person doing my pickup spent probably two hours with me, and said they had three more today after mine. So a solid day's work just helping people with their new trucks (sounds like a dream job). Staff of five and the office looked like it had just been put together last week, but mentioned the entire Gaithersburg staff (new SC opening soon) was there as well for training so ~15 people total working at RVA this week.

Some random stats for anyone keeping track:

  • Vin 19XXX
  • Pre-March price increase reservation holder, was trying to hold out for the Max Pack but just couldn't wait any longer. Needed a new truck.
  • Rivian delivery specialist was *amazing*. After I got home was talking to a neighbor who said when they picked up their Tesla they just tossed them the keys and rolled out. Said they're "well taken care of" by Rivian, and had moved to Richmond for the job. I like companies who take care of their employees.
  • No merch sales on site. They need to get shirts, key chains, hats, the kind of usual high markup items you can get at a Chevy dealership.
  • Every car in the lot was reserved for a customer. Saw dozens of vehicles in the back and multiple tractor trailer loads of additional vehicles come in just while I was there.
  • No significant issues to note. Some pollen trapped under the PPF on driver's side gear tunnel door. Meh. It happens. Not worth a ticket.
  • Bolts on the bottom appear tight. Didn't notice any issues with alignment.
  • No 12V in frunk, no 12V under dash, only one magnet
  • Mine does have Meridian audio system (can I trade anyone the Meridian audio for more 12V outlets? 😆)
  • Turned on Driver+ for half a second on I95. Felt like the wheel started moving on its own and I couldn't turn it off fast enough. Tried to test it on a less-busy local parkway but it said something about "this road isn't mapped".
  • I did not realize the R1T is nearly 11 inches wider than a 1st gen Chevy Colorado. Bit of a surprise when the proximity sensors all started lighting up just going through the garage door.
  • 835 hp is useless in Northern Virginia traffic where you can only go 35 mph if you're lucky. I probably would've been better served with dual motors and longer range, but old truck is on its last legs.
  • Literally my first question was how to to disable the vents and screen in the back seat. Everything back there is useless to me. Would gladly give up back seat for an extra 2' of bed space.
  • Take foot of the gas pedal this thing comes screaming to a halt. It's like learning how to drive all over again.
  • Hate not having Android Auto. Rivian entertainment system has every app I never use and none of the apps I use every day. 😞
  • Guess you would need to schedule a tech visit just to change things like tail lights? Nothing for shade tree mechanics to do. Auto parts stores are going to hate these vehicles. But the aftermarket mods market seem to be thriving. Need a brush guard, won't hold my breath for that though.
  • Wish the trailer hitch was more easily accessible but now I'm just picking nits.

Kudos again for the delivery staff. Lovely truck, pretty funny to see two others of the same color out front with it. Maybe they were doing deliveries in order by color? Glad I wore my green shirt and green jacket today. 😆

TL;DR. Pics.

Nice write up. Glad to see the alignment of the hood to the fender at the corner is good in this instance.

Congratulations Mike, I will be glad to have another R1 to look for in Prince William. I've owned mine now for two months and I've seen exactly two in all that time.

Congrats!! Forest looks great, even without sun.

The worst part about regen is that the tail lights trigger even if you just come off the throttle slightly. Other drivers must think I'm a newb. :p

I've seen a blue one at the Costco in Manassas a few times. Also a gray one and a launch green going down 66 a few times. Always an exciting sight. Based on how many there were in Richmond, I would assume a few more headed our way soon. 😊

Have also seen a Lucid and a Hummer EV in Tysons last week. That thing is a beast!

Awesome. My experience was similar. I spent 2 hours with my delivery person when I picked up yesterday. Same Forest Green R1T. Congrats. I just want to sit in the truck all day and push the buttons.
