Glad to hear the one recommended by @sizotty is one folks here have used successfully. I bought it recently because I thought I'd need it but turned out the campsite had a 50 AMP I could use instead.

Good advice here already. I would add that if you’re going to be doing this frequently it’s better to get a nice mobile charger that has multiple adapters. The ones with adapters will also auto limit max amperage for you too. I have some options in my store that I’ve used.

in RV parks make sure you have some ideal what the voltage is before plugging in the EV. If the voltage is dipping don’t try to pull the full amount. Could cause a brown out and make neighbors very unhappy with you.

us personally we like sites wil 20/30/50 hookups. Even if you have a 50 amp service on your travel trailer you can plug it into a 30 …just won’t be able to run more than one AC unit at a given time.
This guy camps.

Actually, the easier method is to use a Gen 2 (current) Tesla mobile charger, and this pigtail from EVSE Adapters.com

https://evseadapters.com/products/tt-30-adapter-for-tesla-model-s-x-3-gen-2

It's how I charge my R1T when camping at sites that don't have 50-amp outlets.
I have a 30amp TT and plan to use my R1T to tow it. I will plug the trailer into the 30-amp plug on the campground's pedestal. Can I simultaneously plug in my R1T to the 50-amp plug in? If so, is an EV adapter needed? What amp setting in my Rivian is needed?

You should be able to. Just confirm that there are separate circuits for each outlet (I've heard of some places that have a weird shared circuit setup but have never seen one).

You can always lower the amps in the truck on the 50-amp outlet, just to be safe. I had to do just that at an Oregon State Park last month, as the circuit was getting way too hot (dropped it from 32 amps to 16!). Myself and some others on this forum suspect old or sub-par wiring in that case.

It’s neither it’s teh maths.

I could argue I could use one or several diodes in series to determine the voltage drop and based on that, signal a circuit to adjust the max Amps per connector :p ;-)

Biggest thing I've missed with my Sierra is it can only charge at 12A on a 120V source. Of course I have a transformer that upconverts to 240V now in the camper so it barely matters...

You need an EV specific adapter from whatever 30amp 120v plug you have to the 14-50 the Rivian portable comes with. After that it’s as simple as setting the amps on the charging screen to 24amps and plugging in.

These are the adapters I used, a TT-30 (RV plug) to 14-50 for campgrounds and a L5-30 to TT-30 for my generator which requires both adapters to be used for the truck.

Hi again. So I tried the power adapter I used with my RV (see image) and set the amps to 24A and my R1T just sat there saying "Waiting for Charger" (see image - upper left) for about 5 mins then quit. I assume this means I don't have an "EV-specific adapter". Before I buy another, can you confirm this assumption?

That is correct - if you use it with your RV, then it's not wired the way that it need to be for use with an EV.

You’re correct as far as I understand it. The wiring for an EV specific TT-30 to 14-50 adapter is different in order for the EVSE to see voltage on both the hot pins of the plug.

curious, what speeds are you getting with the outlet (Assuming you swapped for the right adapter. I have the same one, ev version)?

I just picked up an r1 and am only getting 4/5 miles an hour after getting 11/12 with my model 3. Very strange.

What’s the kw charge rate showing as? Miles per hour is specific to the vehicle being charged as it’s based on miles per kWh usage. Charging at 2kw in a Rivianis roughly 4mph (2mi/kwh) versus a more efficient Model 3 showing 10mph because it gets 5mi/kwh. The amount of energy being put into the battery is identical.
