What's the core use of third row? Basically like a minivan for kids and pets?

Well, TBH, the core use of a third row was the ability to say to my wife back in 2021, “You know, with two kids, a three row SUV would sure come in handy at times. And we should go electric and there’s this thing called a Rivian R1 coming out….”

So, it was pretty useful.

I'm going to take that as a serious question, although it seems silly/obvious to me.
Yes, to your second question. We've got 7 in our family, so third row is for passengers.

We also have a minivan but much prefer the comfort (aside from getting in and out) that the R1S provides for everyone, especially with a lot of the back roads that we have.
When it gets wet and muddy outside, most of the sports complex parking is garbage and you will see minivans getting stuck. Most people around us have full size SUV's.
When it gets snowy and icy, it is a much safer ride with better clearance than the minivan (even though they both have snow tires)

For us, we might trade in the van for the R2. It won't hold the family, but never do we need two vehicles that can hold 7 at a time. Biggest benefit of the van was long trips overnight where stopping with the R1S was not ideal.

Any other R1 owners out there who are suddenly finding themselves thinking, “Do I really need that third row? I mean, we rarely use it. And this R2 looks even sweeter than my R1.”

Or is that just me? But I don’t have deep pockets so I’m reminding myself that I will probably want an R3 even more….

The lack of clarity on delivery dates is my issue. I realistically want/need an early 2027 delivery, but also want the LE package.

Interesting surprises, like semi-active suspension only on Performance. Also surprised on so much color choice for LE.

Only bummer really is no black wheels! Missed opportunity on the Performance offroad wheels imo.

They really played it safe with color options. With exception of Catalina Cove (I think that's the name), basically shades of gray. I'd wager they are saving the more vibrant hues for future limited special editions.

Yeah, would of been nice to see some sort of Red/Orange/Yellow in the mix. But still better than the MY choices!!

The Forest Green is still there for the top two trims.

I'm guessing the panoramic roof will be standard tinted on all three trims (and not the Dynamic Glass).
