Just one more reason for me to never trust these “self driving” systems. As far as I’m concerned, all of them are still in beta testing.
They essentially are and shouldn't be trusted. They should be supervised according to the conditions they're operating in (and disengaged manually when operating in higher risk conditions). Just because a system will allow someone to use it in a certain condition doesn't mean that they should.

Month 6 with no fix for the dual motor all-purpose motor engagement clunk.
Driving through WV mountains, it was just constant clunking. I was just waiting to see the mechanism eject onto the road in my rear view. Hot garbage is what it is. Snow mode would have been a better option and just charged an extra 5 min.

The frustration is knowing that it doesn't have to be this way. From June 2024 to January 2025 it wasn't an issue. Then they released that update and broke it.

I would have just turned stability to reduced if conditions were good.

I had mine in for this and was told this was normal behavior. They didn’t fix it!!

I wouldn't use Driver+ when there's no room for error. You definitely don''t want to use it when you're sandwiched in tight lane situations of any kind (heavy traffic w. windy roads, barrier wall with no shoulder, etc.). It is possible for it to slip out of the lane briefly.
Wait, I really rely on this for stop and go traffic! Coming from a Tesla with FSD. Not expecting anything close but this is something I do use. Even worked well in my Lightning.

I use it regularly in all of those situations and the only real issues I have is D+ braking when someone in an adjacent lane drifts into my lane or when it erroneously follows the exit line on the right side and then jerks over to follow the left lane marker.

It’s good for that - probably should have clarified I was focusing on high speed driver assistance with that comment. It’s pretty solid in most conditions at slower speeds in my experience.

It will drive in that situation but it drifts too far to the outside of the lane for me to be comfortable. And I have had 2 occasions where it set off the lane keep warning. But this is all at speeds 70+. It’s much better at slower speeds.

I’m sure it will get better. Let me be clear, I’m very happy with the improvements vs gen 1. It’s a complete change from gen 1 in terms of the increased confidence I can give it now.

I am talking about 70+ MPH speeds except for stop and go traffic. D+ was unusable in 2023 in in basically any situation but is so much better now even on Gen1.

Agree with your vs gen 1 comments. But it’s done some things when other cars aren’t around that make me feel uncomfortable unless it has enough room for error where I can intervene at speeds over 70.

I know RJ has said later this year it will start giving buffer room to adjacent vehicles by shifting in your lane. I think this will help greatly in a lot of situations and will improve my confidence in the system.

Also it just takes odd entry and exit angles to curves sometimes. No issues for performance in the curve usually though. I think this also drives some of my discomfort in curves. Once again, this appears to be something that can easily be improved.

Honsetly, performance on those type roads really doesn’t matter too much to me though. Those are the fun roads to drive. I really want it for the long, boring ones mainly.

I still have a small wishlist but welcome the update… especially the accessory mode not disabling adaptive cruise.

Here is the rest of my wishlist for my gen 1 PDM:

- Unlock upgrade option for standard plus to large battery
- Car Play / AA as an app in the infotainment system
- on my dual motor, give me a conserve mode to avoid the rear axle clunk. I usually just go to sport mode if it’s getting annoying but if I don’t need the performance, give me range.
- Valet mode (several threads on this one)
- Teen driver mode
- Open my windows all the way with the app
- Powered Tonneau control from the app
- Blink the headlights or turn them on for x seconds using the app
- Better fault tolerance… a failed rear zone controller should not put the truck in turtle mode. My truck has been towed to Franklin twice for this one. All it controls are gear tunnel doors, PTC and the tailgate.

Any idea what the clunk actually is?
