Any idea what the clunk actually is?
Yup, the motor isn't syncing. It's fully capable of doing so. This isn't something we have to live with.

Wait, I really rely on this for stop and go traffic! Coming from a Tesla with FSD. Not expecting anything close but this is something I do use. Even worked well in my Lightning.
I use it regularly in stop and go traffic. I have not used Telsa FSD, but I think it has the same problem: too conservative when in heavy traffic.

If I let my R1 drive without manual input, it leaves too much space from the car in front. I realize that it is safer to leave a bigger gap, but that big gap means other drivers fill the hole. I want to keep up with traffic, not get pushed back constantly as others jump in front of me.

I can reduce the distance from the car in front by pressing on the accelerator pedal, but after a while that gets annoying, and I just turn it off. If I feel like sitting in the right lane and letting the car drive, and if I can handle people jumping in front of me, it works fine. It will keep up with traffic.

Like any driver assistance feature, I disengage it if it starts to behave improperly. This is why it is called "driver assistance". I am still the driver.

Please don't take AI responses as gospel. Some are fairly accurate, but that response reaks of hallucinations and must not be taken as fact. Unless Rivian themselves have officially said that they can fix it, don't change that belief based on AI.

Looking forward to this. I would still like to see
- Drive mode/suspension-height ribbon on the left or up top somewhat like the climate ribbon at the bottom of the screen
- Activate/Deactivate inverter (outlets) from the app

An actual Rivian employee on social media was the one behind this.

Rivian’s 2025.22 update is currently in early testing with employees and is shaping up to be a solid quality-of-life release. While it doesn’t introduce major new features, it brings a bunch of meaningful improvements across both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles.

Still no automatic cabin over temperature feature??? This should be a higher priority feature.

Like, a setting that will turn on the AC if it gets too hot in the cabin? If so, there have been plenty of posts about it being done automatically by the vehicle, it's just not user-changable...

The frustration is knowing that it doesn't have to be this way. From June 2024 to January 2025 it wasn't an issue. Then they released that update and broke it.

I would have just turned stability to reduced if conditions were good.
I had no idea it didn't used to be a problem. I just assumed the mountain driving exasperated what was already there.

Let me be clear, I’m very happy with the improvements vs gen 1. It’s a complete change from gen 1 in terms of the increased confidence I can give it now.
Strangely, I've had nothing but good experiences with Gen 1. If it's unsure, it disengages and tells me to take over, no swerving. The only Brown Pants moment I've ever had with a Rivian was a Gen 2 loaner, and I never trusted it again.

Why do we still not have departure charging... This is one of the most needed features on an EV...
And easiest. Literally a basic algebra equation.

Driving through WV mountains, it was just constant clunking. I was just waiting to see the mechanism eject onto the road in my rear view. Hot garbage is what it is. Snow mode would have been a better option and just charged an extra 5 min.
The dual motor clunk is ridiculous … and more so since Rivian has not addressed it. An easy software fix would be to add a Conserve mode with front wheel drive only for highway travel. Then, change AP mode to make both motors be constantly on. Rivian does this with my R1T Quad and I can’t see why they can’t do it with my R1S Dual.

Seems like a good update to me. I'll take some increased comfort in Sport as mine lives in sport mode. The accessory thing isn't a huge deal for me as I don't use the hitch much, but it's nice to know for the occasions where I do.

I came from a Tesla and driver+ performance in a gen2 vehicle on highways is similar to Tesla highway autosteer performance. I use it broadly without issues. I keep my hands on the wheel though. And I don’t rely on it in tight spaces at high speed. I use it in stop and go traffic with no issues. Only time I had phantom braking was in a Gen1 loaner vehicle.

i like how it senses your hands without having to provide torque like the Tesla’s needed for so long. I still find myself doing it though after 6 years of Tesla autosteer and fsd experience.
