The highlighted green part is the key. While basic features can be overlooked, I think the major reason Gen 1 isn't getting more features is hardware limitations. I've had a Rivian long enough to remember back in 2022/ early 23 when Rivian was pushing to expand its Gen 1 ADAS capabilities, yet it never came to fruition.

With Rivian monetizing ADAS for Gen 2 they would be incentivized to port chargeable features into Gen 1 if Gen 1 could have those features. I believe Rivian tried and failed to introduce better assistance to the gen 1s. I think at this point Rivian cannot tweak it enough to make a difference so they've moved on to a system that has the abilities to do what they've always planned on doing.
This kinda proves my point that it's not fully hardware limited.

No, it doesn't; Comma uses their own cameras.
1 camera on small cellphone like device integrated into all the other camera and sensors in the car. If these guys can figure it out, no reason Rivian couldn't implement that logic themselves. If driver+ worked close to that, I'd be fine with it.

I believe it's two cameras, and the comma cameras are the main camera for the lane keep. They are probably much higher resolution than the Gen 1 Rivian ones.

The Comma system used with a Gen 1 is awesome. I don't care if Rivian does another thing with boosting autonomous driving on the Gen 1. It worked in situations the Gen 2 wouldn't work. Comma has worked everywhere I've tried it in some very challenging conditions. Even threading the needle very nicely with some very narrow roads. Lane change is very smooth as well. I don't need door to door driving and Comma works well even on 2 lane roads. Best purchase I've made for my truck!

I know there has been a bunch of discussion about this already but I don't understand why the ding when car in front moves and the smart turn signal features aren't a part of Gen1 vehicles. I get that there are hardware limitations for the full autonomous features and stuff but the Gen1 R1's already know that the car in front has moved because it responds accordingly when you have adaptive cruise on. They also know when your lane change is complete because they respond by re-engaging the driver assist function. Not sure what hardware limitations exist when the vehicles already respond with a more intensive function with the same inputs...
I mentioned that upstream as well for the ding. It should be easy to implement and I use it far more on my Teslas that I thought I would when they rolled it out.

Wassym replied on Reddit that the Chime is coming to Gen 1.

How the hell did it take me this long to ignore you?

Gen1 hands-free development has been growing for a while. I believe they call it Project QT.

However, it isn't fully functional on all roads. Standby for Project Ugli updates, I believe it'll work better.
Where was this insight two weeks ago when I drove 8 hours in gloves with it incessantly telling me to put my already on the wheel hands on the wheel. Had a bag of clementines on the rear seat the whole time ?

Lots of folks are waiting for this

Wheel and Tire Swap
May I claim partial credit for this? I like to think after service called me last month to see why I hadn't updated for over 6 months they checked my history showing 5 unsuccessful attempts to get my tires updated and pushed this through so they could entice me to update ?
Anyone else have a very old update pending?

I still don't understand why this is a thing, there are cameras that turn on (automatically) and show you exactly what you need in reverse all the way down to the wheels and how close they are to a curb?

At the end of the day I'm glad they added this feature because clearly folks want it and I appreciate Rivian listening to their customers, so happy to see people happy about it, I just don't see a need for it.
Thanks for your support, wish more people had the "it doesn't bother me to have options I don't want" mentality.
While I don't miss the tilt function much, one reason I and some others may not love full reliance on cameras: I don't clean the lenses ever time I need to reverse and in snow season they get covered nearly every drive.

It wouldn't have helped, it's not a Cutie fan. They're too small. When I'm back from FL, I'm trying out the oranges from my pop's house!

I want it because Irvine Company has a thing for painting parking lot lines dark green, and that doesn't show up on the cameras very well at night. ?

I still have a ziplock bag of quarters someone (not me because I enjoy life) used for FSD trickery.

I did also have a couple grapefruit within reach...

Funny you would mention this. I had a power failure at my house this morning. In preparation for such an event, I had an extension cord setup from my R1T into my house. My main concerns are the furnace, the fridge, and my coffee maker. Works like a charm. The truck could probably run the home essentials for days. That’s a darn big battery. Having said that, a true V2H setup would be awesome!
My R1T will not run my furnace. Natural gas forced air furnace.
