Yup. I don’t mean to sound overly dramatic but I’m dead serious when I say they will either add CarPlay/AA or go out of business* as a manufacturer.

(*Likely would just get dissolved into VW and they’ll pick what they want from the bones)



Just so you know, if you have an iPhone you will NEVER get iMessage without CarPlay. It’s encrypted and only accessible to the app and won’t transmit over just Bluetooth.

Actually, when I had my Tesla Model S (no CP either), the vehicle would get texts (and iMessages I believe) and read them back to me and allow me to respond. So there MUST be an Apple approved method to do this without CP!! Please Rivian, implement at least this!

It is on their roadmap. We should have it later this year.

For the first time in several updates, I am getting the AC weedwacker noise on .31 . Anyone else? Seems to be about 50% duty cycle. Need more testing but the difference between low/medium/high seems very subtle to me. 2022 R1T here.

Totally understand Tesla has a massive head start but as someone already mentioned, there is no need to start from scratch. A lot of the features I mentioned weren't on my 2018 Model 3 but came within about a year but as you mentioned 2019 is 5 years ago. Hire someone from Tesla that built the software and boom - feature parity.

You can’‘t just hire someone from another company and ”boom - feature parity“. Unless you are on the same core platform and they bring along (steal) all the source code from their previous employer - setting up a quick lawsuit that their new employer will definitely lose fast.

Feature functionality doesn’t just get created from thin air - you have to set the requirements, design the UX, architect the implementation, write the code, test on all platforms and package for release along with other requirements. All of this takes real time, effort and $$$. Include control system integration into that project (not just a fun game on your phone) and the effort gets even more involved.

Your suggestion that Rivian doesn’t need to start from scratch is dead wrong.

Stop the presses (ok, this might only be a big deal only to me), had a chance to take a longer drive and the control deadband around stop/go, stop/reverse, and accel/decel is much smaller as to be almost imperceptible. It’s night and day on our truck. This was really bugging me and I wondered if it was mechanical or software in nature. The clunk/tock sound is still there but I’m much happier with how the truck drives. Willing to forgive a lot of the other bugs introduced in the update if this holds up.

Anyone else had all videos disappear from gear guard after the update? This morning there was a notification on gear guard event but nothing in the folder.

On a separate note, surprised there is no red for accent light, such a simple color to do…

Natural selection is about the best to survive. Nobody said that monthly buggy OTA are better than a different approach

Anyone have an issue with a "clear front radars", "radar sensors are blocked" notification after the latest update?
Radar sensors are not blocked and the vehicle is clean. Not sure why this has popped up.

Lost Highway Assist on two major highways (that have been available for 2+ years) on the way to church this morning.

maybe some kind of connectivity or Map Box problem because it couldn’t even tell me the speed limit. These are main highways.

Rivian has a bug regression problem. They seem to be struggling with ramping and verifying two separate platforms.

Not a great look on the eve of asking me to pay for connectivity features. No rush there.

Gen1 R1T QM:

I’m still seeing highways that always had assist now missing. I also have to reset drive cam half the time as it turns itself off. I have to stop, go into park and hit the format drive button before it all a says hello and works. But not all videos there.

Most annoying though is navigation and maps keep disappearing. Just a black screen. Happens on most, not all journeys. Soft reset usually solves it, but by next morning, just a black screen.

The last few updates have been 3 steps forward and two back. I wonder if reducing headcount in the software team has anything to do with it.

Here we go!

Post update I Lost Driver+ on several previously provided highways and now the fan spins up to insane RPMs every 3 or 4 minutes. It's embarrassingly loud, sounds like a turbine engine spooling up. On my '22 R1T, the cons definitely outweigh the pros with this update.
