Seems like a glaring omission to me. Big I've not seen mention of it. Everything I try that has a Dolby Atmos track (Disney+, Plex, etc) only play a stereo down mix. Anyone else notice this?
(If you're in the "Why are you watching movies in your car" group, this thread is not for you 😂😂)
With the release of Gen 2 with its new autonomy platform there has been a lot of confusion about Driver+ vs RAP. There are a whole litany of terms that Rivian has used to refer to these products and it's gotten kind of muddled. So here's my attempt at clarifying it.
1) What's the difference...
There's been a few threads started documenting people who have done the dual performance upgrade, and their thoughts on it. But thus far, nobody has shown the process or how it works. So I figured I'd screen record and show you all here!
Before the Upgrade
I did some 0-60 tests using a drag...
With rumors flying around that Rivian will transition to native NACS together with the release of the quad - it got me thinking...
What is the future of the free adapter situation? Right now every owner gets a free NACS to CCS adapter - and transitioning means Rivian can start saving money on...
Every update seems to have a change or two that's undocumented, I've found a couple already!
1: Driver Display Visuals
They said they just added small SUVs, which is true. But they also appear to have made a few other changes.
The biggest one is the display of lane lines. I presume that they...
Just curious if anyone has heard anything about programming your own key cards. Now that it's possible for the key fobs, I'm hoping they allow the same for cards.
I'm having one my mine replaced this week, and it's going to be $30 for the card, and $40 for a mobile tech to come and program it...
In Utah there are 0 RAN chargers of any kind. So I have no experience with them.
Currently I'm traveling, and just tried a waypoint charger for the first time. It's a paid location, and plug and charge is supported. But HOW!???
CCS makes sense to have P&C, as CCS is a 2 way communication...
Backstory
It’s been pretty well publicized that Gen 1 used a Mobileye autonomy system (It’s an “off the shelf” system purchased and used by MANY automakers). It failed to live up to expectations, and is a closed system that cannot be enhanced by additional sensors etc so Rivian decided to move...
I've been paying close attention to performance the last few days, and I think I've had a few epiphanies as to why performance is (at times) so poor on the infotainment computer. But first a bit of context:
Many have noticed that the map app is generally very poor performing. Lots of lag when...
So I've been snooping around Electrafi, anxiously awaiting more details about the 2025.6 update. And I happened to notice something odd about the only recorded vehicle that's installed this update.
It's a 2025 R1S quad - according to electrafi... except... it's got a history going all the way...
Just curious what battery/motor config everyone has. I know majority of Gen 1 sales were Quad/Large with Dual/Large not far behind (or maybe the other way around?). Curious what the spread is for Gen 2. Is Dual Max the new volume leader? Maybe Tri Max? - This could also be fun to revisit once...
Has anyone noticed the arbitrary limits imposed on the driver's display?
A few of the hard limits I've noticed
Other vehicles are only shown if they are facing the same direction as you (or at least close)
Parked vehicles on the side of the road are only shown if your speed is exactly 30 MPH...
I'm currently shopping for a level 2 adapter, and I want to make sure that I get something that's high quality and won't burn down my r1s. But I also don't want to throw money away
Here's the debate that I'm having...
The "known brand" (Lectron) is $130.
That seems incredibly overpriced...
I recently had my Gen 2 R1S in the service center, and one of the issues I had them looking at was a rattle in the dash being caused by the heat pump. I would describe the heat pump as being very rumbly. Not terribly loud, but definitely audible in a way that calls attention to itself. In...
For a bit of context here, this is not my first experience with a G1 Quad (You can read about that here). I just had the opportunity to spend some time in a G1 again, and my thoughts have evolved a bit, and I noticed a few different. So I figured I’d post my observations - perhaps it can help...
Fair warning: this thread is just one giant
What I'm about to say is of pretty low importance ?
There are 2 kinds of resets that people do on their Rivians. Often called soft resets and hard resets.
In the world of tech typically a soft reset is "graceful". It's where you use the device's...
A while back there was a video where a Rivian engineer was talking about safety and repairability changes made to Gen 2. In that video he mentioned a heater grid for the radar to prevent ice/snow buildup. Unfortunately I am having a hard time finding that thread again
Utah has had an unusually...
I know this is sure to come up frequently - especially once the trial period ends for non connect + subscribers.
Here's what I know about how Chromecasat works:
Chromecast capable apps search the local network for Chromecast targets using mDNS. This utilizes Port 1900. Once it communicates...
Has anyone else noticed that Rivians don't run off of "shore power" when they're plugged in?
I started noticing this as winter has set in. I'll often leave my R1S plugged in overnight to charge, with the added bonus that in the morning I can warm up the cabin and battery before I leave, using...
I live in a household with 3 residents who are EV drivers. In order to divide utilites fairly between us, I needed a system that would track charger usage per-driver. I was unable to find any system that was able to do that. Maybe there is something, but as far as I could tell unless you get...
