I recently had my Gen 2 R1S in the service center, and one of the issues I had them looking at was a rattle in the dash being caused by the heat pump. I would describe the heat pump as being very rumbly. Not terribly loud, but definitely audible in a way that calls attention to itself. In addition to the rumble every once in awhile it would start to rattle something in the dash. This is most noticeable in temperatures between 30 and 40

Here's the video I sent the techs:

Even when it wasn't "rattling" you can still very much hear The rumble in the background.

The techs found that the HVAC (refrigerant) lines were in contact with the bulkhead, and move them and secured them out of the way. Additionally while I was in the service center it automatically installed 2024.51.

Between those two things (I suspect it was more the physical relocation of the lines than it was the software update) it is a night and day difference!

I expected the rumble to still be present, but the rattle to be gone. But much to my surprise even the rumble is mostly gone. From the outside of the vehicle to heat pump sounds about the same, but on the inside it's barely audible. You can still very much feel the vibration in the steering wheel and floor, but you have to strain to hear the rumble over the fan. Huge improvement! I suspect this may be a rather widespread issue, and hopefully this helps others who are experiencing a rumbly heat pump.

Here's a video of what the heat pump sounds like now, running in roughly similar conditions to the first video:

Thanks for sharing, do you by chance know what your build date was on your Rivian?

Wow, that's a teeth-chattering rattle in the first clip. Glad you got it fixed!

I don't remember off the top of my head. I think it's July/August 24

The good news is it wasn't like that constantly. I would say maybe about 5 to 10% of the time. The rest of the time it was just a rumble without the rattle (you can hear that in the second half of the first clip)

But now both are gone and I'm a happy camper!

Also worth noting, this is something I noticed only in heat mode. In air conditioning mode the heat pump seems to run at a lot higher speed and was less rumbly... It'll be interesting to see if I noticed a difference with that once we get back into warmer weather
