Just dropped off my R1T at the Minneapolis service center for the 45,000 mile comprehensive inspection. Drove around the lot and saw our R2 with VIN 1588 sitting on the lot. I have not received word on a pickup date yet. There were at least two others with lower VINs there as well.
Just picked up my R1T, no issues found with the 45,000 inspection. Took a photo of my soon to be R2. Asked the service person about intel on R2 delivery, she said as a service person they have no insight as to sales deliveries.

Well, I'm wondering if Rivian is delivering one at a time, or if they are waiting for more orders to come from the same service center area so they can ship more than one vehicle at a time to a location. If it's the second one, you may have to wait for me and any other Vegas residents to order... I'm still waiting on an invite.
The “shipping more than one at a time to a location” theory is what I was thinking as well, because I ordered on the 9th and haven’t heard anything about a VIN or delivery yet. The SC near me just opened a month ago and I’m not necessarily in a huge metro area (although there are tons of Rivians around) so it may be taking longer to accumulate enough orders here. That said my R1 lease expires on the 12th so I’m hoping that factors in too.

Okay, this is strange right? I think I remember another post where they also noticed some R2s at a Rivian Space just sitting there.

What are the theories? Is Rivian waiting for some of those software updates before they deliver now? Not enough sales people to manage the pick up or possibly the financing/escrow part of the transaction has a backlog? Did they get reports of an issue on the R2 and decide to hold up for a bit because it's an easy fix before they send them out? I guess this could also be a planned pause on Rivian's part. Maybe they decided before hand to get X amount of R2s delivered to customers and then take a quick pause to see if there are issues before continuing with deliveries?

It just seems like they would be getting these in the hands of the buyer ASAP unless there was some other reason for the hold up. They don't appear to be delivering anywhere near where they will need to be so I can't imagine it's a personnel problem somewhere in the order process already. And in this buyer's case, he doesn't even have a delivery date but the car is clearly sitting at it's final destination. Strange.

Yes, a bit strange. I’m on board with the waiting for software update theory. No intel, just conjecture.

I’ve completed all the sales steps. Have paid in full already, have independent insurance in place. No delays on my end.

Hair brain theory:

A) Logistics to shuffle around cars might work well if, Normal Factory is point A, customer is at point C. Point B is inbetween A and C. Customer 1 at C has a car, customer 2 at point C will have a car in the next few days. Stage Cust1 car at B and wait for Cust2 car before moving 1+2 to point C.

B) Customer isn't ready to buy just yet

C) Rivian is making R2s as fast as possible with well known configurations. They disperse the cars to locations and wait for a customer nearby to purchase that configuration. With seemingly batched purchase requests, it might take a cycle to match car with customer.

My theory, Rivian wasn't ready to start making customer deliveries, but had to hit their promised first half promise. They hope for some deliveries to hit their books so they can mention it in their Q2 earnings report.

If Rivian was REALLY ready, they would have had vehicles already deployed to service centers ready for customers to use the "shop" to find a close match. They didn't do this.

While Rivian has shown some video and images from the factory, we have yet to see a parking lot full of R2's like we did with the R1's. (Even RJ's social showed maybe two dozen R2's at the factory, nothing major)

I don't think they've ramped production and they're still working out kinks at the factory, and possibly with software.

While they got the media attention of the "release", I don't think most customers will see much movement until end of summer or towards the end of the year. This will be most frustrating to customers who are new to the brand, and who weren't around for the slow R1 rollout.

The fact that we don't have a bunch of people on the forum or anywhere else showing off their R2's says volumes.

My experience supports this. While rationally/logically I know it isn't personal, the fact that others who made reservation after I did are getting their orders and VINs makes it feel personal emotionally. It's hurting my perception of the company and if I hadn't been told by the Subaru dealer that it'd be 3-4 months to get the Trailseeker I was interested in - I'd probably be going back to the dealer right about now and cancelling my R2 reservation. There may be others who are interested in EVs that they don't have to wait for who are leaving... I can only be told "s00n" so often before I give up and go somewhere else.

Hoping for that "Timeline to order" by end of June information to come. Sounds like it will be a make it or break it for a lot of people.

Unfortunately though, even if my my number is called much later, I have no idea what other vehicle I would purchase at the moment. Nothing else really exciting out there for me under $60k.

The San Antonio SC only had 1 HMG R2 other than the 2 used for test drives and it had "matched" written on the windshield. Think most of the vehicles are still "in transit".

I don’t believe this is anywhere close to accurate.

For those who have gotten the R2s, has anyone had a single issue? That might be a good peek into how it’s going.

VegasWheezy do you mind if I ask what year you made that 6/16 reservation that got you a VIN number? 6/16/24 or 26? Curious Im in Vegas also and own an R1S two years and have sold 2. I stated I would take a launch edition and nothing. Actually…I got a text from the number from the Rivian test drive rep that said to look for an e mail to configure ……then I got a follow up 5 minutes later saying it was an error. This was 1 day after my test drive on 6/11. After that experience Im going to wait for a reasonable lease rate. Im in no rush and they killed the vibe for me with the mistaken offer.

I think production ramp will be accelerated in the August/September timeline since thats when they're adding additional interior/paint configs.

Here is the text at 11:41 on 6/11 saying I had my build slot followed by a text at 11:42 saying………..never mind. My referral code has been used twice and Ive sold many more by word of mouth. I didn’t use the referral code because I dont look at every opportunity as a money making venture. I was just recommending a cool car. I leased a Gen 1 R1 S QUAD motor when they were giving them away prior to the launch of the Gen 2s. My Gen 1 has been relatively problem free. I got the subsidized lease rate so the current 10 percent lease rate for R2 is a non starter. I am going to buy this R1S at the end of the lease in June of 2027. The Gen 2 R1S cars Ive recommended have had various quality issues for the buyers. Having said that they love their cars despite a rocky start. Being offered a configuration slot then having it pulled has made me decide to wait for a Lidar car and allow Rivian to learn how to build this car.

Keep in mind how the all-mighty Tesla did on the Model 3 rollout. It took them 10 months from delivering the first Model 3 (July 2017) to getting me my VIN 22,xxx in May 2018. Patience, they’ll get you your vehicles.
