Credit card for part of purchase?

I'm wondering if Rivian allows for part of the purchase price to be put on a credit card?

Usually car dealers frown on this because they don’t want to pay the 4% transaction fee for someone using a credit card, especially for such a large purchase.

Rivian is doing direct sales though, so I don’t know. This is a good question. Think of the cash back you could get if it was the right card!!! Somehow I don’t think this will be allowed. Keep us posted.

I tried that a few years ago when I drove two hours the day after Christmas to buy a car only to find out dealers won't take checks any more. Next attempt was to just put it on my card. Had to "finance" and then mail in a check to pay it off. Had it not been a great deal I would have walked when they said "no checks".

Yes, I am well aware I could have used a cashier's check or something. They cut the price on the vehicle on Christmas Eve to the point I told my wife "we're getting up on the 26th and driving to Chattanooga" so no bank interaction possible.

It's an online payment API between apps and banks like Stripe etc.

Plaid is a service similar to Zelle or Venmo (sorta). Safe and easy.

My interactions with Plaid have all been through financial institutions, not straight between me and Plaid.

Financial institutions trust Plaid, which may have been around longer than Venmo or Zelle.
