You are overstating (at least) what is reqïred to implement such a system. Rivian is going to have it done in not that many years. Their tech is improving at a pretty good rate. You believe what you want, but spewing massive word salad tomes doesn't make what's happening not true. And overstating Tesla's capabilities makes me wonder if we're talking with Grok.
You’re arguing with a bot

Well... there's always a chance ;)

" Global Average: Based on a global mortality rate of roughly 7.7–10 deaths per 1,000 people per year, the daily chance of you dying is about 0.002%. "
Definitely makes it easier for it to be your last car if it drives you to the scene of the crash on its own.

LOL. I finally figure that out.
I'm not a bot.

People underestimate how hard self driving is while at the same time underestimating how good FSD is.

They just think that tesla seems to be alone in promising self driving for 10+ years

The truth is while tesla is not close to consumer unsupervised, many cars it is just likely not possible

Compared to FSD right now, rivian is at least 2-3 years from something resembling FSD 12 which would put them at 5 years to reach what tesla has now
The problem with this is that Tesla has completely rewritten FSD since v12 (and several times prior) because they took the wrong approach. Now they (probably) have the right approach.

The other problem is assuming Rivian can’t do a better job faster.

Has there been any Rivian statement or any other good reason to believe that the lifetime Autonomy+ license (or monthly fee) can only be bought at the time of vehicle purchase? Yes, I'd expect that the price will only go up over time and the remaining lifetime of the car would be shorter, but it would be nice to have a better idea of the product's ultimate value before buying (and spend that money on the paint, etc., that I know I want right now).

The ability for an elderly person to have a car take them to the doctor is essentially here today. While no manufacturer is rated for point to point today, the consumer version of Tesla FSD backed me out of the garage and drove over 100 miles to my friends house yesterday and parked me curbside as I requested. Never touched the wheel.

Using "Hey Grok", I can simply tell it a few destinations, such as go to my doctors, then the pharmacy, and then the grocery store, before taking me home. It is not perfect, and if these were set as favorites it would probably be more reliable.

I'm hoping Rivian will do a basic version of this with the current Autonomy + and one of the reasons I'm leaning towards the R2 instead of the Scout.

There is a continuum in capabilities even within Supervised FSD. I am at the point where I will let almost anyone with a license drive my car with FSD on. It is that good.

The Model Y with one additional camera washer is driving people around in test locations as a Robotaxi today.

It can be purchased at any time within the vehicle or through the mobile app. Monthly has no long-term commitment currently, so it can be canceled at any time. You could Test it out for a month for $50 and if you like it, you can purchase the lifetime.

But there is an undefined risk. I paid Tesla $8,000 this year (before the cutoff) to own FSD. It will take me about 5 years to break even (selling has some value). I am betting that Tesla may raise the price as it becomes unsupervised.

Rivian is potentially in the same boat. The current version is only worth $2,500, but fully supervised point to point is worth at least $4,000 even if it is basic. I suspect the price will creep up as features are added.

Yes the price will go up which is why, if you keep the vehicle for 4+ years and value autonomy, it is worth the single payment.
