Also, current R1 owners get priority.
Yah take that with salt though. You don't know how many R1 owners are R2 reservation holders. And those R1 owners don't know their place in the queue. You also don't know if Rivian will call them up based on date/time of reservation, how long they've been an R1 owner, or based on logistics (delivery distance from Normal). Don't mistake it for all R1 owners will get theirs first before everyone else. There are also employees who get to place their orders first. And then there are the influencers. Only 25k units projected to be produce in 2026. There probably won't be enough to give everyone with "priority" status a R2.

The Macan EV has a tow rating of 5500 lbs. and it's similar in size to the R2 (I think). There seems to be a phycological barrier when the rating is under 5k, I've seen many complaints of the R2's 4400 lb rating which is normal for a vehicle of this class.
It's also a lot more expensive.

A lot more, $82,650 to start. And 4400 lbs is above average for the class. Most are either 1500 or 3500. BMW X3 M50 beats the R2 by 420 pounds, but it's $66.5k starting and fugly.

Right. But I thought the discussion about towing capacities was in regard to vehicle size, not price. Isn't the Macan similar in size to R2? Of course it's going to be more expensive, it's a Porsche.

Color selection is disappointingly bland other than the purple. Not even a red? Guess a wrap will be in the cards unless they offer some better options in the future.

Our '25 R1S is a little over a year old and we need the cargo and towing capacity or we'd be all over the LE in launch green. They nailed it! I feel like we should buy some stock.

I understand wanting a price point but don't get why anyone would want a RWD SUV.
I'm guessing you have never owned or driven a performance RWD vehicle. My '08 M3 was an absolute blast, especially with Blizzack winter tires in deep snow.

All in cost
That varies wildly depending on zip code. A few states don't have sales tax and some counties are much less than others.

Ah Fisker. I remember those days. I loved the look of that car. Still so pissed Henrik and his wife screwed everything up. They could've had an R2-like moment too if they really were smart. It turns out Henrik can only design well. I would've kept my Mariana Blue if I could.
Saw one a few days ago in Overland Park, KS rolling along with traffic under its own power.

Man, if the premium was under 50k, I would have gotten it since my state has an EV state exemption task for EVs under 50k. Since only the RWD is under 50k, I may as well just go all out for LE then. That and it has Borealis. Though I hear the LE won't have coastal interior so I may end up waiting anyway.
