So, how has it been like with State Farm? How has it been for filing claims and getting repairs? I've been a long time State Farm customer, decades. But chose to go with Nationwide-Rivian for my T due to extent of coverage and their new car replacement policy. After nearly three years, I'm really tired of their ever-increasing premiums. Couple years ago, State Farm gave me a far lower quote. But from reading other experiences, they don't seem to even have Rivian in their system. Is this still the case?

I've had mine insured through State Farm since March of 2022. It's been in their system since at least then.

I can't speak to their Rivian-specific claims support, as the only claim I've had on the R1 is a rock chip. Other claims I've put in have been flawless, however, including a deer strike a few years back in the Sienna.

Rates are also much lower than I've seen thrown around here, though there are a lot of factors that affect rates.

State Farm customer for 3 decades. I was a very early Rivian owner in spring 2023 and had no trouble getting coverage at a very reasonable rate. Rates for my Rivian coverage have actually come down twice over the last 3 years. Have only had two claims in the last 15 years (deer strike on another car and hail damage). No complaints on how the handled it.

Similar to @godfodder0901. Longtime State Farm customer, VERY happy with claim outcomes on other vehicles, no claims yet on either of our Rivians.

Best wishes, @UnsungZero_OldTimeAdMan!

Same here, long time State Farm customer and happy with them. I’ve not had a claim on my R1T, but claims on previous vehicles were handled well.

When bought my R1T, insurance was only about $15/month higher than my 6 year old Chevy Colorado that it replaced. I thought that was very reasonable.

I’ve had State Farm in SoCal since 1987. I have not had a claim in 17 years, that one was handled great. My R1S coverage was around the same price as my Jeep GC when I got it in January of 23 and the price has not changed much.

I have had state farm for three years and only one claim on the R1T. I just got my truck back today from the body shop. It was a side mirror. Stupid me hit it backing out of the garage. It was a bit of a fiasco they messed up something on there end so it took over a week for the body shop to get confirmation of payment after it was done. I have had State farm for many decades and most of the time it has been flawless when I have had a claim.

Was it a Rivian Certified body shop that isn't among State Farm's preferred list?

Yes it was the only certified Rivian body shop in MN. I do not know if it is on State farms preferred list but it is the only one in MN. The person I talked to at State farm said the claim was handled incorrectly on their end and took it upon herself to get it paid after I called a few times asking about the holdup. The guy at the body shop said this was unusual for how simple of a claim it was and he deals with state farm all the time. I think this was just a fluke. If it happens again I will be insurance shopping but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since in past years the few claims I have had were handled well.

My personal experience is that things get less straight-forward when you go outside of their preferred list of body shops. With previous car, I took it to same body shop twice. First time, they were on the preferred list. Easy peasy. Didn't have to do much beyond simply dropping the car off. Second time, few years later, they were no longer on the list. Asst. manager said State Farm complained they were too expensive. And the body shop prides itself in doing things right, first and foremost, which I agree is the way it should be... I'd been paying the same amount of insurance year after year, even if I made no claims. I shouldn't have to compromise on quality for sake of State Farm's balance sheets and spending habits... especially when they're running multiple ad campaigns with A-list sports celebrities (at millions each). That second time definitely did not go as smoothly. Extra calls. Extra scrutiny regarding how the damage incurred (parking lot hit and run). In the end they still paid the shop.

There areas in California that State Farm will no longer write homeowners policies. Auto may not be far behind.

I have State Farm auto insurance and have had a policy on my Rivian R1T since October of 2022. The only claim I've had is two years ago when a large buck charged into the side of my truck from the woods. You could see the outline of its antlers in the rear door. We were driving less than 20 mph but I'm convinced the deer charged the truck on purpose (it was rutting season and the males go a little crazy then). Maybe it didn't like the sound of the electric motors! I had to take it to a Rivian approved body shop two hours away (couldn't use local body shops) but otherwise there was no problem with State Farm paying the insurance claim.
