I still think that for a work truck, not a grocery and kids truck, an EREV makes far more sense than trying to cram a huge battery in order to get the range needed. I’m curious what they can come up with and more importantly when, given how long the Ram EREV has been in development and still not released.

i wanted to believe this was a temporary step away but the 10 Lightning support comment makes me think otherwise. I did notice they made sure to assure folks that the 9.7kw power outlet system will be on the new hybrid. Great decision.

Too bad I loved that truck.

I think this is the right decision. A 10,000 lbs /$100k EV still cannot satisfy people who tow. It's clear that most truck buyers will not accept EVs with the current battery tech.

We will see if solid state batteries will help reach that gap. There are a lot of promises out there.

They'll never accept them because to them its not a "truck" I hear it from everyone I know on a daily basis, I just call them poor and move on :)

I believe for many many buyers in the truck world an EV presents the wrong image.
I mean how do you get someone to move from rolling coal to installing solar panels?

The challenge seems to be that you need a good amount of engine output to keep up with battery drain, especially while towing. I suppose you could fill the “mega power frunk” with engine and gas tank…

I think this is a shame. It's a step backward for Ford, and the entire EV movement.

We'll see how well this EREV can actually tow. I find it interesting that the Scout EREV version has less towing capacity than the BEV.

I wait for any of these things to be actually built and sold, there's a reason the volt went bye bye in favor of the bolt. If you dont tow regularly an ev truck is the best.

So thankful Ford accepted my buyback. The resale value of the Lightning was already atrocious. I can't drive an ICE truck so I replaced it with the Sierra AT4 EV. GM is going to face the same problem if they don't figure out how to get their dealers onboard. Dealer's hate EVs because they don't require really any maintenance.

I think the EREVs are kind of silly. Now if they could have a piece of plutonium in there to charge the batteries that would be awesome :D

Brilliant Ford, what will you think of next? Now you have to make 2 stops. One to “gas up” and the other to “charge up” 🤦‍♂️. I wonder if the volume knob on this new EREV truck radio will go to “11”? 😉

Yeah, I thought the discussion around Scout was that EREV is hard to make work for distance towing. After the first 150 miles, you are basically running on gas for the rest of the trip. So you need a gas engine big enough for full-power towing (regardless of if it drives the wheels or puts energy into the battery) and the same for the gas tank.

ICE only towing requires an engine powerful enough to to tow uphill. Truck can easily have a tow mode that keeps the battery level high. This will help reduce the engine size.

It's a shame that these auto manufactures are not willing to read the tea leaves and see that investing in developing lines of EV's is the way of the future. Instead, you have the European car manufactures crying that they can't hit the pollution compliance in 5 years, and US-based companies not willing to do much beyond making more over-bloated 4x4's. "Oh, but we have a concept vehicle on the drawing board!", in Europe, they are touting a NEW generation of Diesel. Really? You can rapidly build a working prototype of a DIESEL, yet you can't evolve an EV product line. Oh, wait! That's all going on in China. Seems every 2 months, the Chinese are INTRODUCING a new, better range battery pack or battery technology and infrastructure for countries like India and Brazil, oh, and LOW PRICE EV'S for every consumer. What do we get? New V8's, Platinum trim levels and cancelled 1st generation product.

Sorry for the rant.
