I mean are we actually shocked by this? Lol

This is a vehicle for those who have the money to spend. So you have a limited population that can actually afford these vehicles and then you have the people who do not want to adopt electric vehicles to their lifestyles.
So, small relative population compared to the whole + those who want evs vs those who want to stick to ICE = “reduced” sales.

I mean the cybertruck and rivian start out in the 70’s for the base models…

I drive both a Tesla and a Rivian and I love them! But we can’t be shocked when sales aren’t through the roof. We know they are great and we are willing to shuck our money at them, but this is not surprising news. Tesla did great bringing in more affordable options and Rivian is following. Their sales do not come from their highest end models.

If the starting price could be upper 40’s for some of these we would see a huge shift, but I digress.

Also, Chevy proved something that was seemingly common sense although not undertaken by other manufacturers…slap some more batteries in and give us that dang range lol. Can’t wait for the future charging curves/speeds to continue to progress

Yes, I would of thought being the last quarter for the Fed Tax credit and the lease loophole, they would have sold more...especially compared to other EV Pickups. I get it that EV pickups are not sales leaders & R1T isn't a direct comparison to the Lightening or GM's products...but they're not that far off in terms of features and price for the entry level models.

As much as I enjoyed my R1T, I would probably buy the Siverado EV if I were to do it again. The superior range and larger size of the cabin and bed are big selling points for me. The Rivian's bed was certainly big enough for many use cases but I found myself wanting a larger truck bed on many occasions. I also like that Chevy offered a pass through (mid-gate) for the bed, into the cab.

At the end of the day, my wife and I decided we needed an SUV more. So I got an R1S. Already I've had to rent a trailer a couple times, making me miss having a pickup. But I'll keep with my original plan to drive the R1S until the Scout Terra Harvester is released.

Not a surprise. The main rationale of getting a pickup truck is towing, and EV pickups can't compete with ICE at that. Plus most of these truck sales are in flyover country, that has much less charging infrastructure compared to the populated coasts. If I were in charge of Rivian I would focus on the SUV only and add an even larger R1S+ model 3-row family SUV similar to the Suburban or Escalade ESV, in addition to the regular R1S.

Captain Obvious would like to point out that there's no good news here. Hard to explain it away in any sense, despite some valiant attempts herein.

And I'm still a first gen R1T fanboy.

Given that that R1T belongs to a platform that includes the R1S, and AFAIK, the others don't really (aside from the Hummer), I include the R1S in the count, which from a linked article on the vans earlier in the thread, Cox Automotive placed at ~8,000 in Q3. That puts the platform at the top of that table.

For many similar reasons that people have listed in this thread, I had considered pick-ups before, but until the R1T came along, none of them met my diverse wants. There are oodles of people like me in my area of BC that would love something a bit cheaper, and I really think Rivian should do an R2T (the amount of Tacomas around here almost outnumbers full-size trucks). I view sales of the "T" variants as additive to the platform developed primarily as an SUV, and therefore the incremental development cost of a "T" variant for the R2 could be covered by the incremental revenue from selling an R2T. It wouldn't steal from the R2 "S", it would be additive!

The Hummer, Serria EV, and Silverado EV all share a platform. With the Serria and Silverado being virtual siblings rather than the more cousin like relationship they have with the Hummer: with combined sales of 7,314 for pure trucks. When combined the large Ultium GM's have 14,824 sales when counting the Esalade IQ (which my wife is making me look at this week now...).

If anyone in the large EV segment is 'winning' its GM.

Yes RWD, coil spring suspension, single motor, minimal towing, low price..... might sell better with more margin and less warranty work.

I’d say we all are winning with all of the choices we now have. 4 years ago we had nothing in this category.

I completely agree with you. The amount of utility these vehicles have and the daily life practicality is wonderful.

I will say that the legacy automakers should look more into what Tesla and Rivian are doing from an AI software/OTA updates standpoint. I could be completely ignorant here so someone correct me if so, but the fact that my Tesla is miles better today than it was several years ago makes the driving experience feel refreshing. Unsure if the legacy folks push OTA updates or not or integrate AI, but this alone makes Tesla/Rivian a better vehicle to drive the ICE vehicles imo.

Agree. Legacy automaker software updates are a complete joke. You basically get what you paid for and nothing substantive changes.
