They've been doing quite the media blitz this past week with numerous articles/features across:
CNBC
The Verge
MT
...
I can't help but think they might've timed this to counter any fallout from the 7.5k credit sunsetting.

I'm not really a truck guy, but an R2T would be very appealing. I still haven't reserved an R2, but if an R2T gets announced, I would be very interested in that. A $45k electric pickup sounds way more palatable than a $70k one. One cay say the same for an SUV, but a 3rd row is worth it for a lot of people. Hopefully this changes in the future if the R2 sells as expected.
I was not a truck guy until I got my R1T. It is the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned, and I freaking love it. It does so many things well. It is supercar quick, handles almost as good as a sports car, and will haul a sheet of drywall. While a R2T might not do all of those things, I bet it will be one of the most versatile small pickups ever made. If they make it.

It's all going to boil down to price, price, price. Model Y Standard is now $39.9K, the closer Rivian can get to $40K the better as the R2 will be a far superior/more capable vehicle.
Model Y Standard isn't comparable to anything on the market now or in the future and should not be used as a benchmark for anything. It's the old model Y with textured seats and less features than the any model Y. I have a 2025 Model Y, the old one and comparably the Model Y Standard looks cheap and isn't a deal price wise with all the removed features and less range. Better to compare the R2 to the Korean mid sized EV's from a price perspective.

I also think an R2T, at the moment, would have no real competition. All other EV trucks are full size. The R1T is midsize. Nothing smaller than that. I could see more appeal to a small EV pickup truck and could see it selling quite well.

Yep make it maverick sized and don’t have 4 doors. I miss the smaller suicide doors on trucks.

i have a few friends that are intrigued by the R3. I think if they made the R3 in a convertible it might be the perfect car for my wife.. she has long wanted a convertible VW Cabriolet but I've kept us in the all electric lane for the last 14 years (starting with a LEAF). I think that the R3 would be a real solid platform for a convertible and build on the adventure branding mindset. Thoughts?

I think the lease to purchase ratio will be closer to 50:50. If no robust extended warranty exists, they will have a lot of cars on hand. Rivian needs to bring an extended plan to cover non battery and motor items. Also, with the fact an iX3 will exist with more range and features at a subsidized rate will really impact the R2. As it stands now the iX3 will lease at ~$600 a month for 425m of range and DM per BMW presser. Lots of competition.

Love my R1T Quad but I'd buy the shit out of an R2T quad
I would greatly prefer a mid-size truck instead of full size. It would do everything we need without being big. It seems it will never happen in the US, no RealMan(tm) would ever own less than an oversized pickup.

RJ just has some free time while the equipment is being installed in the plant.

Praying Rivian hears you. My first car was a convertible (Infiniti G37). Sold it a few years back to get a bigger SUV (growing family aka got a dog). Have since been able to get a BMW 2 Series as my convertible of choice. While I love the car, it would be a lot better with it was electric, IMO. I'm kinda shocked (no pun intended) that we have zero electric convertibles. Granted, convertibles as a breed are kind of dying, but an electric EV would be an interesting proposition. The R3, size wise, makes a lot of sense. I'd likely daily it if existed, get an R2 or R3X for my wife and then have an R1S for road trips. That would be a dream fleet.

I don't think it would happen, but one can dream, right? Perhaps one of the rumored R4-R6 would be a roadster of sort?
